I've just been surfing around the website, and I came across an interesting Post, that I think would be a good topic to discuss, see below:

"Capcom end console wars Web posted on 24/10/00.

Capcom are aiming to publish games that can be played over the internet with all next-gen consoles.

Beginning next year, Capcom are aiming to publish games compatible with Nintendo Gamecube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, PC and Dreamcast. The idea is to unite gamers from all corners of the console world and bring them all together, not to mention making a small fortune in the process.

No games have been officially announced yet, but it is thought Capcom want to get this system up and running as soon as possible. It will make a welcome change from people moaning "who's console is best?" - now everyone can play together nicely.

Its a new way of thinking, but perhaps this sort of thing will take off. On the forum weve been discussing which console will be the victor of the so called "Console Wars", will it be the Playstation 2, Dreamcast, Gamecube or X-box. Well your guess is as good as mine! But the above post suggests it could be all of the above, with Broadband internet here and getting cheaper, by next year or perhaps the year after this could be a possibility.
All these machines could play the games (Because they will all have USB modem add ons) and if you had a PS2 you could play any game eg "Street Fighter Gamma 7 Special edition" against someone with an X-box. Excellent for multiplayer games!
All the consoles would need is the ability really to download video information in Real Time, and with a USB modem Im pretty sure all the next Generation Machines mentioned above could do this. No doubt someone with a suitably equiped PC could also play. I think this really is the Future of Gaming. However I would suggest that Capcom sells CDs to the Gamer which allow them to access the relevant site, and not go down a "PAY PER PLAY METHOD" of online gaming.
There is also competition out there for Capcom, Codemasters has said it is trying to do a similar thing. The real advantage for the gamer however apart from all the online fun is that you wouldnt need to upgrade your console, as all the complex processing would be done by a superfast console on the other end of the line.

There are some initial concerns, ie that the games machines on the end of the line can keep up with demand, and that hopefully this doesnt come as a Pay per play format, but it certainly has potential.

So what do you think about this?? Are you content with consoles the way they are, do you think online gaming is the future, or do you have a different interpretation of the Original Post by Ali G???
what are your views??
