I've just been surfing around the website, and I came across an interesting Post, that I think would be a good topic to discuss, see below:

"Capcom end console wars Web posted on 24/10/00.

Capcom are aiming to publish games that can be played over the internet with all next-gen consoles.

Beginning next year, Capcom are aiming to publish games compatible with Nintendo Gamecube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, PC and Dreamcast. The idea is to unite gamers from all corners of the console world and bring them all together, not to mention making a small fortune in the process.

No games have been officially announced yet, but it is thought Capcom want to get this system up and running as soon as possible. It will make a welcome change from people moaning "who's console is best?" - now everyone can play together nicely.

Its a new way of thinking, but perhaps this sort of thing will take off. On the forum weve been discussing which console will be the victor of the so called "Console Wars", will it be the Playstation 2, Dreamcast, Gamecube or X-box. Well your guess is as good as mine! But the above post suggests it could be all of the above, with Broadband internet here and getting cheaper, by next year or perhaps the year after this could be a possibility.
All these machines could play the games (Because they will all have USB modem add ons) and if you had a PS2 you could play any game eg "Street Fighter Gamma 7 Special edition" against someone with an X-box. Excellent for multiplayer games!
All the consoles would need is the ability really to download video information in Real Time, and with a USB modem Im pretty sure all the next Generation Machines mentioned above could do this. No doubt someone with a suitably equiped PC could also play. I think this really is the Future of Gaming. However I would suggest that Capcom sells CDs to the Gamer which allow them to access the relevant site, and not go down a "PAY PER PLAY METHOD" of online gaming.
There is also competition out there for Capcom, Codemasters has said it is trying to do a similar thing. The real advantage for the gamer however apart from all the online fun is that you wouldnt need to upgrade your console, as all the complex processing would be done by a superfast console on the other end of the line.

There are some initial concerns, ie that the games machines on the end of the line can keep up with demand, and that hopefully this doesnt come as a Pay per play format, but it certainly has potential.

So what do you think about this?? Are you content with consoles the way they are, do you think online gaming is the future, or do you have a different interpretation of the Original Post by Ali G???
what are your views??

Nope. I was going to buy it a while ago, but didn't.

I don't go much for online gaming.

I do have the original Unreal, though - it came free with my MAXX PC!

The PC version has literally hundreds of levels. Potentially anyway.

There will probably be a piece of code, that stops any levels that aren't on PS2/Dreamcast running while changing levels automatically in a multiplayer game.

You don't happen to have the demo of Unreal Tournament, do you?

But if the PC has levels that aren't in the DC/PS2 version... there are potential problems.

There is no problem, because any PC owner of the game can downkload the necessary levels.

I believe it means that they will create the same game on all formats - i.e. the same options and levels on PS2, DC, X-box, GC, and PC - so that any system can play with any other system.

In other words, you wouldn't have the problem that has been mentioned elsewhere about the DC version of UT not working with the PC version because of different levels.

It's basically the same game, coded for all consoles. Then they would have a converted, like JAVA does, and this converted would convert the signals over a big server, and the consoles would talk to each other for the first time in years.

To answer your question,..I dont know, thats just how I interpreted the post...you make your own minds up what the original Post means....I just thought that online gameing as I described would mean that Capcom only has to write one version of a game, then only a system to acess that game online for another system..ie Dreamcast or PS2.

Interpret the post as you will, any idea what it does mean?

I believe this is quite false. Otherwise you could play Unreal Tournament on a Master System...

If you had the game running at 1140 x 29434304, or whatever it is, and your friend had 120 x 10, they would both still work with eachother.

Are you sure about this? I've heard about cross-platform online games, but this is news to me.
