It's not the machine, it's the discs.

DVD's are shot in a 16:9 ratio, so don't be surprised if you can't find many 4:3 compatible discs. There are a few around, but not many.

Half of the DVD experience is viewing the film on a wider landscape...

I am having problems with the Screen size when watching some DVDs. I have a standard TV, with the screen size set to 4:3 in the system configuration. When I play DVDs (namely, The 6th Sense and Get Carter), the screen size in setup seems to be set to 16:9 and I can't change it. So I don't get to see the movie in widescreen as I should. Is this a known problem, and are there any fixes.

Also is there a way of watching DVDs from any region on PS2 yet ?

Ive only watched three DVD's so far and havent had much trouble at all. Through The Blair Witch Project I couldnt get rid of the subtitles, Sleepy Hollow was fine apart from jumping for about 20 seconds half way through and Jurassic Park was perfect, not one problem. I am very impressed with the DVD capabilities of the machine!!

Lock Stock - the speech got out of sync and was cured by a few seconds pause.

Other than that I watched 'Green Mile' and was annoyed by the stretched picture. Seems you cannot turn the thing to 4:3 (despite what the manual says) Everyone has long heads....

My thoughts on the Sony green output are well documented elsewhere on this forum. I hope they feel the shame.

Games are awesome, but I am disappointed with the whole DVD experience.

Only played 2 DVD's, The Faculty and The Matrix, and both played fine. As i have said before though, i bought it to play games, so i will not rush out to buy any DVD's. It is just nice to have the capability to do so if i want.

P.S. The above DVD's i borrowed off a mate to try out the system, and i was suitably impressed.
