Why do computer programmers confuse Xmas with hallow'een?

Because Oct(25) = Dec(31)

Allow me to shed some light. You won't find it funny. Oct refers to the octal numbering system using a base of 8 rather than 10. You count from 0 to 7, rather than 0 to 10. So in this case Oct 31 in decimal represents (3*8)+1. Decimal 25.

Don't worry about it, it's a computer nerd/geek thing.

I just can't work to a base of 16! My old Acorn Electron had a hex counter when loading. I didn't know what the hell it was doing, until a few years back.

Could have been worse, there's a few Hex jokes knocking about too, but they take a lot more working out. :-)
