3DM isn't a CPU intensive benchmark. Look: Your CPU works out what the helll is going on each frame and tell the graphics card to render it. If your CPU can't figure out where all the bullets are flying etc on UT2K3 more than 20 times a second, no matter WHAT res or WHAT effects or WHAT card is doing all this, you *can't* get more than 20fps. This is why my box 0wnz ruari's at UT2K3 :-)
go to http://service.madonion.com/servlet/Index?pageid=/orb/ projectsearch and search for results for a Radeon 9700 Pro using a 1000MHz processor.
(You have to be a member) As you will see the top results are past the 9000mark which should be more than enough to run any game in 1024x768 nowadays

All I mean is i'd say that in any game 50fps is more than enough, game running at 100fps is just stupid and even with a 1ghz bottleneck a graphics card as powerful as an r9700 pro should be able to come out pretty well
18.4gbs bandwidth - i want one
(drools over himself)

50fps on what? Either way I doubt it on anything recent.

Which GF3? I have a GF3 Ti500 running at about Ti4200 speeds, and yeah, I do 1024 as well. Well, except in Counter-Strike, 1600x1200 or nothing :)

Yeah, me too Wookie. I'm actually going to switch to P4 this Christmas - although the Athlon is generally faster like for like, the P4 makes less heat and therefore needs less of a noisy fan to cool.
I run all my games at 1024x768 (anything higher is overkill) in 32-bit colour (when available), and all purrs along quite nicely.
i said a good enough graphics card
as in a Radeon 9700 Pro.....
