Rooney has played 10 games now and it has taken him this long to score. In all honesty he has been ridiculously over hyped, he was nothing special in the other games and his excellent goal was his one real shining moment. He is a very good talent but for Wenger to say he is better than Owen, was ridiculous, he just wanted to cover his own embaressment at losing after all his cocky remarks about being unbeatable, and at the same time try and put michael owen down.Compared with say Carlton Cole of chelsea who is 6 foot 3, played three or four first team games, and in them scored twice and got and assist. Given a choice I know who i would rather have. Rooney is getting most of his attention through his novelty value (being 16) and has really not done much to show he is worthy of the praise. In my books Carlton Cole has a better chance of being heskeys replacement as he is the big man England need upfront, can score and doesn't fall over. Obviously he isn't ready yet but twenty years from now I bet he has more caps than Rooney. Other youngsters actually worthy of praise at the moment are Kolo Toure, Simon Davies and Paul Robinson.

Everton are 25-1 to win the Worthington Cup and I would say that it is a good bet for a outsider.

They have Newcastle in the cup, and I think they will beat these. Newcastle will be concentrating on the Premiership and in Europe.

For a start Wayne 'the God' Rooney is not hyped up enough. As many premiership managers have said in the last two weeks he is the best pospect that they have ever said.

I say hype him up more and more and more!!!!

Your criticising a 16 year old KID for being hyped up by other people. The title of this topic should have been something along the lines of "Mr Wenger is wrong" for example. He may not have impressed you by not living up to your standards but it is Wenger and the media who are saying how great he is and it is them you should be complaining about. I am not a hard core Everton fan by any means, quite the opposite actually being a supporter of Liverpool so I have no reason to stick up for Wayne Rooney or Diego Forlan because they are a member of my team. I do that purely because I can actually see that even though their goalscoring records are not that high yet, the other general and important aspects of their game are all superb and that the goals will come. And the coming on late thing, even if it is 30 minutes, why would one player come on and change a game in that time if the rest of the team can't influence it in the whole 90 minutes.

Actually i heard of him well over a year ago. I am a football fanatic and take a great interest in following the lower levels of teams to see young stars coming through. If you weren't so uniformed you would realise that rooney has had 4 starts this season and 7 more appearances, the majority of which he has come on before the 60th minute. I really hate people who try to defend players by saying "he comes on late" (ahem cough cough Diego forlan who has had 18 hours football for Man utd and has 1 penalty to show for it.) Rooney is undoubtedly very talented, and unless you live very near him, or are a hard core everton fan i'm pretty sure i heard about him well before you. He is a very good young player but to say he is the best young talent in england in the last 5 or 6 years is utterly ridiculous. He has proven nothing yet and i remain unconvinced until he has, because i wasn't overly impressed with his other games.

Exactly.

This kid is 16years old, playing in grounds with thousands of fans watching him, and he can beat David Seaman in off the crossbar from 25ft. And you say he's over hyped?

Nope, he looks like the next Owen to me.

Except its Rooney :o)

Given the fact he is only 16 and most pros don't reach their best until there mid to late 20's, I think he has a very good future ahead of him as long as he dosn't let all the fame and hype get to him.

He looks good, more talent than most, will be interesting to see how he does the rest of the season.

Your saying he is over hyped because he has only scored once in about 5 substitute appearances with about 10 minutes to go and 2 or less starts where he has been replaced quite early in the game. Great stars like Pierluigi Casiraghi only scored 1 goal in 14 games for Chelsea. If you had ever seen Rooney before this Saturday (which clearly you probably haven't)you'd have realised why he is being so hyped up. He's shown all the ability possibly needed to suceed while playing in Evertons under-19 side at the tender age of 15 and has been picked for the England u-19's but was stopped from doing so by David Moyes who is doing the right thing in trying to protect him.

Toure, Robinson and Davies are all getting praise but you would expect a 16 year old who ends Arsenals unbeaten run to be on all the back pages of the newspapers so why don't you just get off his case.
