Rooney has played 10 games now and it has taken him this long to score. In all honesty he has been ridiculously over hyped, he was nothing special in the other games and his excellent goal was his one real shining moment. He is a very good talent but for Wenger to say he is better than Owen, was ridiculous, he just wanted to cover his own embaressment at losing after all his cocky remarks about being unbeatable, and at the same time try and put michael owen down.Compared with say Carlton Cole of chelsea who is 6 foot 3, played three or four first team games, and in them scored twice and got and assist. Given a choice I know who i would rather have. Rooney is getting most of his attention through his novelty value (being 16) and has really not done much to show he is worthy of the praise. In my books Carlton Cole has a better chance of being heskeys replacement as he is the big man England need upfront, can score and doesn't fall over. Obviously he isn't ready yet but twenty years from now I bet he has more caps than Rooney. Other youngsters actually worthy of praise at the moment are Kolo Toure, Simon Davies and Paul Robinson.

When Robbie Folwer was christained God by Liverpool fans no more mentioned that they were over hyping the the scum Folwer.

But as soon as Everton get the new star, Liverpool fans and other jealous people start having a go and saying he is not as good as Folwer. (Not saying that any of you have said that).

But give the Kid a chance.

Everton for the Worthless Cup and Rooney for Prime Minister!

It wasnt a direct criticism of Seaman altho his positioning sometimes is dodgy at best, the kid Rooney should never have been able to beat Seaman like he did and it was more of a praise to Rooney than a criticism of Seaman that the boy did score that goal.

I still think Seaman is clearly the best keeper England has right now and im sure he will be keeping goal in Euro 2006, i hope he is anyway.

You just said about criticising the national team yet you have just done it.

Its small wonder our National team under achieves when tommorows talent is criticised before they even get a chance.

Joe Cole and Rooney are 2 of our brightest hopes for the future, its frightening to think that the boy will get better with experience, he has the potential to become one of the worlds best and i dont think im being overly optimistic either.

The goal he scored against Arsenal he controlled the ball perfectly, spun, left 2 Arsenal defenders for dead, had the awareness to look up and notice Seaman off his line (again) then wrap his foot around the ball and perfectly place his shot out of reach of Englands International goalkeeper who was left hopeless, now if thats over hyped i'd love to see someone who is actually good.

The kid who is 17 now has a wonderful future and im so glad he is English, he is just what we need for the 2006 world cup and beyond. I just hope that the FA dont wait until he is 23 to play him or worse still do what they did with Matt le tissier and hardly play him at all.

ROONEY

Is he really over hyped.

Dont forget he is only 16, only took his GCSE's a few months ago. There he is playing agaion people in the 30's and scoring goals. Hes now scored 4 goals for everton and the leader has about 10. He comes on an plays the last 10 min of a game and does his job well.

Maybe he is a bit over hyped BUT he should still get the media he gets becasue look at the things hes done. Scoring agaisnt arsenal at 16. Thats something that should be hyped about

I dont know how you are but at 16 (like me) your still a kid and only love one club, hes been a blue all his life and wants to play for them and improve that team. His dreams are probably for everton to win the league not for him to play for man Utd

The most promising youngsters in the premiership at the moment are Simon Davies and Wayne 'the God' Rooney. They both in the last couple of years have come on leaps and bounds. Simon Davies may be 5 years older than Rooney but he should be hitting the headlines more than Rooney due to his blisting performances for Wales and Spurs this season.
