I have an ASUS A7S333 Motherboard with Geforce III card, after putting together my new PC everything is fine except …. I cannot get any display on my monitor and it whistles !, have I connected something up incorrectly OR have I got some of my processor/memory switches set wrong (I have a XP1600 CPU and 256mb of DDR???) – there are no switch setting in the manual and I couldn’t find any on the Asus website.
Please help, UT2003 is waiting !
Geforce 4 ti's arent really that power hungry, the more things you have attached to your system like hdd and cdroms n stuff the higher wattage PSU needed, the new Radeon 9700 card need to use a floppy power connector from the PSU
Enermex PSU's are top quality as there 12/5/3 volt lines are good and won't drop, also they are pretty quiet.

(1) What kind of PSU are you using? XP processors are pretty power-hungry, so if you're using an old PSU then it might not be up to the job. You really need a 400W model for the newer AMD processors. These don't come cheap (unless you buy one that sounds like a hurricane) so it might be best to take your PC to a computer shop and see if they'll let you test whether this the problem. If you do have to buy a new PSU, go for an Enermax: pricey but worth it.
(2) Is your RAM (a) new, and (b) branded or no-name? If you've never had the memory running in a machine then you may just have a duff stick. If the memory is unbranded then it can screw things up - a stick that ran happily with a Duron processor, for example, might throw a fit when presented with an Athlon. Welcome to the wacky world of no-name RAM.
Both these things - and of course many others - can stop your PC from POSTing (which is when you'd hear the beeps), but the one I'd test first is the PSU. Once you know you're putting enough power into the components then you can start getting lairy with the tech support people - always a larf.

also what beeps do you get?, - not heard any beeps so far, worrying eh ?
Processor is 1600XP so will be 133mhz and memory is DDR 266mhz – so I set at 133mhz ?, I don’t have my motherboard manual with me but think there are only combinations of 100/133mhz settings for CPU and memory.
I don’t know what the default setting on the board is but will check tonight, I will investigate tonight, my fans and HD is spinning up but my CD Writer has both lights on constantly and my keyboard has all the Num/Caps Lock lights flashing constantly …. would the wrong jumper settings be enough to cause all these problems ??

1.The system clock or "clock speed" is the speed which your cpu runs at or the amount of pulses per second either in MHZ (millions of pulses per second) or Ghz (billions of pulses per second). The FSB (front side bus is the data path and physical interface between the CPU and the memory.
2.If your wondering why the athlon 1600XP runs at 1400mhz it is because of the instruction set the xp chips have called quantispeed which gives the 1400mhz cpu the same performance as a 1600mhz cpu.

The speed at what everything in your computer runs to is called your SYSTEM CLOCK. It is sometimes called the FSB (FRONT-SIDE BUS) but they are NOT the same thing. The FSB is twice your system clock.
CPUs run with different FSBs depending on their core. XP1600s up to XP3000s with Palomino/Thoroughbred cores run at 133mhz system clock, 266mhz FSB.
Note XP1600s run at 133*10.5 = 1.4ghz (they have a 10.5 multiplier in them. UNLOCKING a CPU allows you to change this multiplier).
Now, for RAM:
What speed your RAM runs at depends on your system clock and the type of RAM you have. DDR (DOUBLE DATA RATE) RAM runs at twice your system clock - 266mhz with an AthlonXP 1600. PC2100 RAM will run stably at 266mhz, with a maximum throughput of 2.1GB/s. PC2700 RAM will run stably at 333mhz - for CPUs running at 166mhz system clock, with a throughput of 2.7GB/s.
I think that's all correct...
