I don't know if any of you listen to Guns and Roses anymore. Anyway I was listening to Sweet child o' mine last night and I asked my boyf if he felt the same way about me ans Axl does about the girl in the song and he said no because she is dead.

I don't think she is

What do you think?

(lyrics for reference)

She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that
special place
And if I stared too long
I'd probably break down and cry

Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine

She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me
of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by

Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine

Where do we go
Where do we go now
Where do we go
Sweet child o' mine

Guns n' Roses are/were dreadful

Even if they did influence early Manics

Oh, and Rosalind, which version of Don't Cry do you prefer? The one from Use 1 or Use 2?

She's alive, but perhaps they split up a while before. Which is why when he thinks of her, he has memories of being a child again.

See?

I'd say she was alive in the song - there are no past tense references.

She's alive in the song.

Axl would have said "she had a smile" instead of "she's got".

That's wot i recon anyway.

Maybe she was a minger and reduced him to tears..?

Maybe its just a song about a chick he wrote to sell records..?

Hah I knew I was right.

I think it was this bit he was refering to.

It puts a different spin on it if you think of it that way though.

(I think Don't Cry is better)

The song was written a while ago so the young lady could well be dead by now. Ok be serious; the lyrics indicate his love for her, there is no allusion to her death in any of the metaphors or similies.

One of their better songs methinks.
