This might need a bit of explaining.

Okay, I have an old PC with Win95, and a new-ish one with Win98. I wanna upgrade the old one to Win98, because I don't wanna spend money on a new OS, but I want to upgrade the old one.

How do I upgrade Win95 to Win98?

A startup floppy won't install Win98 onto your PC.... get the Win98 CD and pop it into your CD drive. No CD, no Install.

By the way, Windows are annoying!! they sell PCs with their Operating System on and don't give you the CD!! whats the point?

*Looks at his Linux CD and hopes it will install itself*

Okay, now I'm confused. Do I use the Win98 CD, or the Win98 Startup floppy disk?

Just pop the CD in, reboot your PC and it will explain to you what you need to do, don't format though :) just upgrade.

Yeah, I reckon I'll have to do that.
And how do I install Win98? I think I have to put the disc in and press F8 or something, on startup, don't I?

And what do I do after that?

I'm pretty sure you can use a 'full installation' Win O/S CD to upgrade your Win95 O/S which is what you'll need to do if you want to keep your games. If I were you, i'd save all my files & games onto the other win98 PC and format the Win95 one.

That's what I'm thinking, Alex, but will this procudure cause me to lose all my saved files and games? Also, can I just overwrite Win95 or do I need to fully remove it first? If I do have to delete it, how do I start the installation procedure for Win98? I'm presuming I just insert the startup disc when switching on the PC?

I didn't think you had to buy a second copy of software if it's only for Home use, if it's for a business or school then yes...

Get Linux Debian 3.0 (Woody) it's £1.50 for P&P the CDs free!!!!
best darn OS ever! .. apparently.

You buy a Win98 upgrade disc. Anything else is illegal.
