The Argentine Supreme Court of Justice has confirmed a two-year jail sentence on Diego Maradona - but the former Argentina star will not have to go to prison.

The highest Justice tribunal in the country rejected an appeal presented by Maradona, who had been condemned by the Buenos Aires province Supreme Court for assaulting a group of journalists in 1994. On 1 January 1994, Maradona had left the team Newell's Old Boys and a group of journalists were waiting for him at his country house in the city of Moreno.

Maradona - who failed a drugs test at the 1994 World Cup - armed himself with an air-gun and began to fire at the journalists.

Pablo Talamoni, Norberto Zani, Sergio Vijande Rivera and Rafael Yohai were injured, and accused him.

Now, the Supreme Court have confirmed the verdict of imprisonment for two years "on hold", what means that Maradona will go to jail only if he commits another crime.

The guy has just about done it all! LEGEND

"Maradona - who failed a drugs test at the 1994 World Cup - armed himself with an air-gun and began to fire at the journalists."

I've just got that image in my mind now, bloody Hilarious.

And er, I'm not condoning Diego for using a air rifle, but its not as if he started firing at innocent people in a public place. These journalists were waiting outside his house for him. And we all know how these journalists have a complete disregard for peoples privacy and well being. All they are interested in is getting thier story, journalists are scum.

It wouldn't be funny AT ALL. But then, I don't have anything to do with air-guns. If I owned one, then I would consider myself to be as bad as the person shooting somebody; not that you have/have not done it, but you have the capabilities to do so.

What are you doing with an air-rifle anyway? You obviously want to use it, otherwise, you wouldn't have one.

Finally: The borders of what is/isn't funny.
If you saw a clown, walking weird, clapping his hands, making weird noises, and suddenly, a bike crashed in to him. Not injuring him in anyway, but causing him some discomfort; would the first thing on your mind be "Look at that poor clown, that was absolutely uncalled for for that biker to hit into him like that"? I guess it would be something along the lines of "That was funny", or "that clown deserved it for making a nuisance of himself".

If the same happened to a sweet old lady, your immediate thought is "That was totally unwarranted, etc etc".

What I'm saying is, peoples perceptions of any given moment are not to be interpreted as the serious thought, as it can be misjudged and misleading. ..exactly what you seem to have in your mind-set. We were laughing at the Marradona thing, but obviously, we don't consider it funny IN ANY WAY that innocent people were caught in cross-fire. It was the basic image of Marradona doing it what made us laugh.

Y'see?

No, I don't see any double standards.

I'm not saying that people shouldn't be able to own or use them, just that anyone who misuses them should be punished.

I think drunk drivers should be jailed and banned for life from driving. Does that mean I have double standards if I drive myself?

I don't use my gun when my mum is around, or even take it out of the case, because she's terrified of them - any gun, even toys - after the incident.

It was discovered later that the same person who shot my mum also shot another woman in the hand. The pellet lodged between two bones, requiring minor surgery to remove it. Unfortunately it also did some minor nerve damage, and while she can still use her hand, it doesn't function exactly as it should.

People like this idiot Maradona are the reason that things like this can't be enjoyed freely by safe, responsible people. Because other idiots see them do it, think it's funny and 'cool', and try doing it themselves.

If I were to do the same where your family go shopping, how funny and cool would it be then?

He shot and injured people with an air pistol. My mum was shot and injured with an air rifle. Is one more amusing than the other? I'm sorry, but I see nothing light-hearted or amusing about the misuse of a gun.

Woah, slow down there Speedy. Obviously, we wouldn't be laughing if it happened to anyone in particular; it's the situation which is funny, not the fact that he shot some people. You complain that your Mum was hit by t, and yet you own one; Don't you see the double standards?

Sorry about your Mum, but that really doesn't have much to do with this post. It was light-hearted for Gods'sake.

I agree. I read this a few days ago and I was waiting for a reply like this. He is a pathetic cheat, and now doing this, makes me think how much more of a moron he is.

That has to be the funniest thing I have ever heard regarding Diego Maradona!! I've heard people call him fat because of how he is now and everything, but this is just 'the best'! :D

I can see him there, armed, looking like some kinda Mafia guy - due to his size today. I don't know what he looked-like back then, so I can't really picture him... 'thin'.
