Just wondering as the Xbox has a hard drive, that makes it vulnerable to virus attacks doesn't it?

Are MS actually planning on any Anti-Virus software to be installed onto your XboX once it's given online capabilities?

It could be pretty bad if somebody does manage to get a virus into the network and it formats everybodies hard drives. It could be mayhem, all those lost saved games!!!

Can't see where that came from. They've made $40billion+, the most successful company.

They must just have an ounce of sense somewhere.

As for the hackers thing, yes. I can imagine someone deciding it would be really "cool" to hack into the network itself and shut it down, stopping thousands of gamers worldwide for a few hours. And it'd probably hit the headlines too, but no damage will be caused to the Xbox itself.

MS... Not stupid?

lol

Seriously though, there will be some people trying to hak into the network some way or another, even if they don't attack your Xbox they will try and do something...

There are some really sad people out there!

Goddamn button. Now, I'll start again :-)

True. But there's no way AT ALL that this code will be able to run, even if it does get onto your machine. Just like with the mods burnt onto CDs, they need the code given by Microsoft (which would be very difficult to crack to prevent piracy) for the code to be able to run on your Xbox.

So unless they've managed to get this autenticity code from microsoft for their virus (impossible) the only way of a virus effecting your machine is if you've had it chipped to play codes without this stamp from MS (like the mod chips that allow you insert a CD and make your Xbox region free).

Otherwise, your Xbox is safe. MS check the games, and the updates, and give them this code if they are clean.

A multi billion dollar company isn't stupid, you know.

Xbox security?

Do the controllers march round bashing anything that tries to do bad things?

MS cracking down on hackers will work, but after they have tried/succeeded you can't stop things from happening before they do! (This isn't Minority Report!)

A simple code to delete the saved files is all that is neded...

But you forget, no program at all will run on the Xbox without MS's authenticity code - something that a virus won't have.

So yes, modded Xbox's will have a problem here as the mod chip means it doesn't need the certificate.

However, no viruses will run on a unmodded xbox.

I Can make a simple virus, I learnt Visual Basic in IT at school, it is'nt that hard.

Have you listened to what i have just said? The Xbox does'nt have an operating system for a virus to manifest onto, Like i said you need to bypass the Xbox security.....

Of course there is, but MS will crack em down.

I bet you couldn't make a virus on a PC...

Nor could I!

But if people have already found out how to crack an XboX and access the hard drive then it shouldn't be too hard for them to write a simple virus...

With the right knowledge, anything is possible!

I can guarentee people will try and hack the service and try and break it. There are some really sad people out there!

There is no cable to connect Xbox to PC.

Xbox is a gaming console, not a Media device with PC connectivity.

Although hackers have found a way of putting things onto the Xbox hard drive through a PC. You will need to have knowledge of how the Xbox BIOS works, How to pass the Xbox BIOS security, Then you'd have to work out how to program a virus to actually attack the Xbox Hard drive, as the Xbox is'nt a PC, it does'nt have an operating system (well it does, but its just the "kernal" OS)

Xbox Live is a closely monitored network, MS will sort them damn freaks out when they get found out.
