I got my PC from an independent shop. Their technical support is flawless, and they are only the price of a national phone call away. Furthermore when i go in they remember me by name. And thats always nice.

My last comp was a Pakard Bell, which was naff. At one point we lost all sound on the PC for no reason, and we couldn't find out how or why this had happened, nor could we fix it, so we had to restore the entire system resulting in all saved work being lost. We also had problems with the mouse which sopped working for no reason, and even one of the speakers just gave up and broke. We got a replacement, which funnily enough, also brok after a few months.

Meh, bit of a crap comp, but I now have a much better Compaq which has had real problem whatsoever since I got it 3 yearts ago.

Pfft, 133MHz? That's what this system started at.

www.powerleap.com might interest you, although if you feel like putting the K6-3 400MHz in, you will need the Unicore / Mr.Bios (sounds so damn corny, stands for Morgan something BIOS) bios upgrade. I tried phoning the UK branch, they had no idea my PC even existed, and helpful salesrep bod suggested not bothering to pay but asking around PB upgrade forums instead. Found a newsgroup specifically for that, posted a message, someone replied with the bios upgrade attached to the mail. Hence the 40GB HDD, 400MHz AMD CPU etc. etc. etc.

Dell?!... Just as bad a company. Infact in this day and age, it's better to get your comp built at a trustworthy PC shop, than it is to buy from a company - as they're inept and have pathetically poor excuses for technical support.

What you'll likely find with the PC is that the problem is really small, and simple to fix... of course, the Packard Bell helpdesk knowledge is also small and simple. This system I'm running is an older model PB, I stopped asking the company anything about it years ago, when I discovered I knew more about the PC than the cretins who built it.

"Motherboard goes upto 233MHz"

"Where exactly did you learn to count? It goes to 200, no further."

"There isn't a more recent BIOS update than 1998"

"Erm? Unicore.com anyone?"

"I'm sorry, your PC does not support AMD processors, or HDDs over 4GB in capacity"

"Ok... I'll just tell it to stop using the 40GB HDD, and AMD K6-3 CPU, thankyou for your time"

Bottom line with Packard Bell: Download the motherboard manual, be prepared to find mistakes in it, and fix everything that goes wrong yourself - NEVER let them anywhere near it, as it'll likely come back in worse condition.

I had a Packard Bell. It crashed a lot. So I got a Dell. Which crashes less. Which is good. Hope that helped.
