FIRST EARTH & BEYOND UPDATE IMMINENT
October 30th will see the arrival of the first monthly update for sci-fi MMORPG Earth & Beyond
14:08 Westwood has announced that the first of its planned monthly updates for Earth & Beyond will arrive on 30th October. The release will include several new missions and other new content for the sci-fi online role-playing game.
The October 30th update marks the beginning of Westwood Studios' periodic commitment to its title. From this moment forward, the end of each month will see the release of further updates that will add features, enhancements and content to the world of Earth & Beyond.
So what will you get this month? Well, here's the list:
New missions for all character archetypes
New unique items that are dropped when players kill high-level monsters
A speed increase to all ships while planet side
Improved item drops for mid- to high-level monsters
Additional information on trade good items
Graphical enhancements to combat
Enhancements to the embedded browser
In addition to the monthly updates, Westwood also plans to release "event" patches for special occasions. The first of these will arrive on October 31st, which will focus on Halloween.
MMORPG Earth & Beyond gives gamers the opportunity to become captains of their own starship, living a life of galactic adventurer as they embark on missions and trade and fight with thousands of other players.
PC gamers in Europe can only currently purchase Earth & Beyond through Amazon.co.uk, which has set up an exclusive deal with EA for the product.
BF1942 thread. Probably one of the better discussions although a few fanboy folk in there with the usual trolling wit.

other than those 2 links. Hold off on BF1942 unless you have played the demo with the patch installed. If not be careful on the purchase. Don't get me wrong its a great game works fine for me, but it does have its issues.

Earth and Beyond - Great game played it stright for about a week through the Founders Federation (beta). got board of it though, great game if your into MMORPGS but a space combat simulator like Elite or other great titles it isn't.
And another thing what I noticed about Allied Assault. The last 2 levels in the game, are taken straight out of the first game on the PS1. The forest level and fort may look better, and have a different set up to the origanal game, but they are basically the same. That's what dissapointed the most about that game. I just pray the expansion pack doesn't suffer the same fate.
Stupid really. Console owners (especially XBOX) have all this to look forward to.
Black and White made me wary, customers got hosed badly with the 1st patch taking almost 4 months to appear and then all manner of crap. Features in the manual not implemented etc, multiplayer shoddy and ill-thought out.
Developer complains about EA's handling and pressure to release.
Medal of Honour:Allied Assault.
Good game until the final levels, where the previous length and little touches just disappeared and turned into an anti-climax rush through to finish. And the mulitplayer aspect is pitiful.
Developer talks about how they never meant to have a multiplayer side but EA made them, and shortened the development time by a couple of months to get it out.
Patches eventually surfaced.
And now Earth & Beyond.
It seems, time and time again, that Electronic Arts really do drop the ball time and time again.
And as soon as I see "EA Games", I steer well clear for at least 6 months.
I think I'll wait as well before I make any decisions on buying this game, It's a game I'd love to play, but given EAs track record there is going to be something wrong with it.
Seems they would rather get a barely-gold release through the door and rake it in than spend as long as it takes to get it polished and as good as can be.
But I'd say most of my EA games (Black and White especially) was in no way gold-build before shipped. Molyneaux as much as admitted it eventually.
I think I'll leave off buying this game a few months, let the code settle and problems get ironed.
But from what I've now heard, they may be shipping the game end of this month, which means that it'll be a job of downloading huge patches to make the game work properly.
Why can't people finish a product before releasing it any more?
