Rio Ferdinand launched a vicious assault on Bayer defender Berbatov, knocking him to the floor with a nasty rabbit punch from behind. He only got a yellow card, but should surely have walked for violent conduct.

In a half-time interview, Berbatov said, "I quite frequently train for such instances by trying to fight my way out of a wet paper bag, but nothing could have prepared me for such an immense impact from behind."

In other, more shocking news, Ruud van Nistelrooy scored two goals from open play. Manager Alex Ferguson said of his striker, "I don't know what's got into him. He knows I don't like that kind of thing. He will be disciplined."

LMAO at all these people saying what a violent assault that was from Rio. I've seen 5 year old kids give harder punches then what Rio gave that Leverkusen player.
Of course not condoning it, it was a sending off offence, you raise your hands to a player you should be off but my god didn't that guy make a meal of it. I thought English defenders were better than that anyway, you'd never see Chopper Harris give a little girly slap like that.
Now onto the bit having a go at the ref. Did the ref see it? No, otherwise he'd have called it in the first place, however if what looked like the 4th official telling him what had happened then surely Rio would have been off? you can't give a yellow card for that, it's all or nothing. But that ref for some reason obviously had something against United i mean did he actually call anything for us in that game? Veron gets hacked down oh no let's play on, Butt's getting kicked in the back of the leg oh no come on play on. I think he's the David Ellerey of Europe i hope we don't get him again.

If you hit a player you get a red!

It's as easy as that!

Doesn't matter if you miss or only slap him gently, it's always a red!

Other player should have got a yellow for unsporting behaviour!

This is coming from a ref!

Unsporting behaviour is great though, if you ever don't know what to book them for, that's the offence you use!

I honestly don't see what was so bad with it to have possibly deserved a Red Card - like both Ron Atkinson and Wookie have said.

It's was just a little clip round the back of the neck!
And that Turk (or whatever he was) made a right-old meal out of it!

I'll admit that it did deserve the Yellow Card he got, but surely not a Red for an act of stupidity?? He was just doing his job, irritating and frustrating the Strikers. He should've just been given the Yellow Card as a warning from the Referee to say "Watch it, SunShine, or you're off!!" - in German (or whatever language he speaks), of course.

And as for that Rivaldo-esque act.... WHY THE HELL DIDN'T HE GET ANYTHING!!! Not even a simple WARNING from the Ref!!

Once again, the Referees have done something to frustrate me.
Great goals by van Nistelrooy though. :D

Heh, a chip? Me? Well, at least I know I'm not alone in that.

I was actually trying to take the pee out of Berbatov, but I guess it didn't come across properly. The Nostrilboy stuff was just an afterthought!

Dear me, wookie, I wouldn't mind so much, but everyone knows you've got such a chip on your shoulder about United that it renders any of your comments about them completely irrelevant. Now I find them funny, but still irrelevant. I mean, I'm a United fan, but I don't try to take anything away from Arsenal, they're also a very good team. We just need to start playing in the premiership, that's all.

I though the 'wet paper bag' bit implied that. It was your 'oh please' that led me to believe you hadn't read it - sorry.

Oi wookie, I'm not thick.

I was simply stating that the defender should belong in a swimming pool, not a football pitch.
