Why?

The main purpose in cars is to stop you going 40mph through the window

when you go to sleep on a plane they ask you too keep your seatbelts on aswell

Anything goes wrong in a plane and your dead really

Although the bit about people feeling safe is a mind thing... it's there as a comfort blanket for people... like this will save me with my life jacket when we crash into France like a dart

Nah ah.
Not all people take them off. Some feel safer wearing them.
Granted a plane doesn't blow up enough just to get a small hole in it often(I know the last sentance didn't make sense) BUT when it does theres enough time for at least four people to get sucked out of the plane before the pressure balences out.One of which *has* to be a flight attendant.

If a door or side panel is ripped off the plane while you're 30,000ft in the air,wearing a seatbelt ensures you are trapped in your seat when you get sucked out of the hole.

Well if the planes were to crash while landing you dont want to be flung high into the air. As this would make a head injury more likely.
