I saw the PS2 advert, and remembered how much they put into it.
And than i thought to myself what the hell is this.
Aliens, the 3rd world? What the heck was going on i thought?
I thought it was some deodarant or some budweiser advert but it weren't it was a PS2 advert.
This was even worse than Sega's ad for the Dreamcast.
30 million players worldwide?
And we've been arguing about a lack of adverts!
And than i thought to myself what the hell is this.

They made a big campaign on it and i didn't even gasp in awe. It was silly.
The P turning into a ? was a stroke of genius... :)
The advertisement in question is a contemporary work of surrealism taken to the extreme. The underlying bass tones give us expectancy, the imagery allows us to illusion for ourselves what those expectations will be, the talking duck is symbolic of Sony's zany humour and the punchline at the end

worked rather well. All in all a fantastic work of blended sound and vision that culminates in a subliminal message to go down to Dixons and order a PS2. Note that they don't mention when you will actually GET one though.

the advert was very strange.......
If they said, "Welcome to the next dimension." I really would have laughed my head off.

As I said - perhaps it was another company pretending to be Sony, subtly telling us what they see the future to be:

How can adverts get any worse than this?
I said this eariler, but I'll say it again now, and of course, you can catch up with my thoughts of the week in an omnibus on Saturday.
Anyway, the PS2 advert is what happens when you have the technology and money, but no skill or imagination.
It's a shame really. Lots of potential, but no emotion. Like the PS2, really. Although Sony would argue otherwise. :)
