Nintendo confirmed that characters Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong will return on Gamecube as they begin developing INTERNALLY on a brand new DK title after selling Rare.

This isn't a bad thing, as good as Rare were they did not match Nintendo's ability to make Platformers.

Actually, I can't see Nintendo using most of the characters that Rare created. I think they'll come up with new things, to prove in some way that Rare really aren't needed.

I demand a game where Funky Kong (The Surfer dude who built machines in DKC3 and became a part time arms dealer in DK64) is a playable character! Hop to it Ninty!!! :D

Donkey Kong is the same character no matter how he looks! Nintendo also have Diddy Kong who also was made by Rare. All the Kong stuff is now Nintendo's.

You'd have to assume so... I mean they used the 'Rare' DK in numerous games from the various incarnations of Mario Kart to Smash Bros. to Mario Tennis... It's probably in the small print...

Just caught up on news! :-)

It seems that Rare did keep PD, Conker and Banjo.
I wonder if they'll let Nintendo keep the "Rare" version of DK?

I still think that Donkey Kong Country was better than Super Mario World, although DK64 wasn't so much a step, as a hyperspace jump in the wrong direction.

Perhaps Nintendo will leave the 3D adventuring to Mario, and give the new Donkey Kong game some classic old-skool gameplay.
Basically make DKC in 3D.

It's be a nice change from your usual platformer but very difficult to make - people don't want games that are too linear but this game would rely on an A-B structure...

I'm sure that Nintendo can do it.

I've heard that Rare own the Donkey Kong who wears the tie (basically, the image Donkey Kong has had since his Snes game - the one that appeared in Mario Kart, Smash Brothers etc...).

Perhaps they'll use it as trading material to get Perfect Dark back from Nintendo.

It's up to Nintendo whether or not they bring out Donkey Kong racing, not Rare. They own each character of the Kong family, and the Kong name, and if they want to make DK Racing they will. Unlikely though, as they'll probably just bring out Mario Kart.

DK GameCube should be good. Rare were admittedly a great company but lets face it, they're no Nintendo.

DK64 was good. Not as good as Banjo.#

Mario ruled all.
