Every time I watch the new episodes of the Simpsons I get more and more wound up. Is it just me or are the new episodes very, very poor?
It seems that every member of the Simpson family has changed completely since the show started. And I really don't think they have changed in a good way.
Take Homer for example. In the first few series (two and three especially), he was a loveable character due to his child-like way of thinking. This seems to have completely changed now. Where we used to laugh at the things he said, the creators now feel that Homer has to be visually funny all the time which I don't think is the same. For example, in the episode when Marge tries to ban Bart and Lisa from watching Itchy and Scratchy, the laughs provided by Homer were from what he said i.e. (Homer on the phone) "You heard me. I won't be in work today cos my baby beat me up!" Compare to a (reasonably) recent episode where Homer goes to live on a farm. The writers obviously thought it would be hilarious to show Homer getting trapped under a tractor every time he went near it. That's not funny.....
And whatever happened to Marge's disapproving moan? In earlier series she would do that moan whenever she was worried about what Homer was doing/saying. Now all she does is go along with what he wants. Also, she never calls him "Homer" anymore, it's always a really annoying "Homie".
Lisa now acts like a thirty year old woman where before she was simply a brighter than average little girl.
As for Bart, he was lost long ago.
One of the most worrying things I've noticed recently is all the bodily function jokes creeping. Fart and burp jokes are cheap laughs for kids. The Simpsons was never simply for kids, sure it was a cartoon but the subtle humour made it enjoyable for adults too. Kids'll enjoy any cartoon. An example of this poor humour was when Bart was in the bubble. He invites Lisa into the bubbles and she complains about the smell. "Wasn't me!" replies Bart. About as funny as the new adverts about little kids wiping there *ahems*.
Is it not too much to ask for a little thought to go into each episode?

i've lost my simpsons love for about 3 years now. After waiting a good few years for the writers to actually concentrate more on the funnier characters such as Comic Book Guy and Apu instead of that whiny Lisa who has got to be the most annoying character in television history in my opinion i've just given up waiting and decided to follow Futurama and Family Guy more now. It was really good until the time they obviously got told they have to concentrate on what feminists want and to hell with the actual comedy
It's one of few things I watch on TV and I love it

The Simpsons is the one thing on TV where I never, ever get tired of the re-runs. Between BBC and Sky, I've seen some episodes probably ten times or more - and they're always funny!
I really should buy the DVDs!

i think it's a classic still, i think it's funnier than it ever has been. i mean that episode with bart in that bubble LOL and when they go to Brazil to find that little boy and homer gets kidnapped.
it's been going for around 13 years!!! if it stayed the same it woulda got dull ages ago. and i don't think they have changed the charecters all that much, and if they have at least it was gradual.

"The Last Temptation of Krusty", where Krusty realises his comedy sucks. He gets angry, starts smoking onstage and wearing black and railing against "The Man".
It's a tribute to Bill Hicks and if you look carefully in the credits, you can spot some of Hicks' character names.

I think the main reason I don't like them is the way they have changed all the characters. Mr Burns has changed drastically, as has Barney. Barney's whole gimmick was being a disgusting drunk. Now he sits in Moe's drinking coffee.

The homer living on a farm episode was legendary.
Was it the one which started off with homer challenging everyone to a duel?
That episode referenced about 4 well-known books and lots of films as well... I loved that episode, everything down to the old confederate gentleman with the confederacy flag painted on his camper van roof...
