I went to Ilford County High School for boys.
It had a big red-tiled roof.
The headmaster would sign his name HM on reprimand sheets.
One dark night a group of intrepid students climbed onto the roof and painted HM PRISON in 12 foot high white lettering across the roof.
It was on the news on TV. The person who "leaked" the story was expelled depite the fact that this roof was facing a main road and could be seen by everybody in Barkingside.
A few weeks later the letters were removed with a sander. The marks left by the sander spelled HM PRISON
Strange - but true
