Like the N64 they could have it run on the Xbox but with less features available (like running on a non-expansion packed N64) but also have it run on the Xbox Next with all features available.

Yeah it'll probably be a simultaneous launch on Xbox and Xbox Next to maximise profit and give the new console a nice launch title.
