Cheats.
Now, I'm not saying that I'm a saint (I am a diabolically evil WELSH albino, after all), but I'm pretty much against using any cheats in any shape or form when playing a game... that is, until I've completed the game.
In my opinion, attempting to complete a game AFTER you've already cheated so that you can see all that the game has to offer is pretty much a waste of time. Fair enough, part of wanting to complete a game is so that you can at least say that you've taken on the challenge and won (and of course the bragging rights that are attained by doing so), but completing a game is also about EARNING thee right to see every little secret, reward and other stuff that a game has to offer. By cheating so see all of this straight away, you're effectively wasting the 30-40 quid you paid for the game.
Cheats are fine for mucking around after you've completed the game (and for people who ultimately suck at games) but otherwise, what's the point?
You have to hand it to volition for the PS2 version of Red Faction, no cheats whatsoever, with any luck they'll do the same for the november due sequel. If I'm going to use cheats I prefer the novel ones such as the ones you find in tony hawks' games, such as gravity, flying, disco etc. and GTA3's appearance changing cheat. They're more interesting than your bog standards "god mode" and the like.
I'm not a big fan of cheating, for me it can ruin games if they are constantly used, so I try not use cheats if I can. Whenever I do cheat though, I try not to make a habit of it, as I don't want the rest of the game I'm playing to be ruined. But sometimes it's unavoidable.
Still like you said makes the game better/last longer. Hell I still play it today :)
Mario Kart 64 is probably the best example I’ve seen of this. Have you noticed that when you use a mushroom or a golden mushroom, that you don’t get very far away from the computer players. If you haven’t noticed, go and play and see for yourself. You seen that? Good. Now there are two sides to this argument so I’m going to express both of them.
Firstly I could argue that this is extremely annoying. Which it is. The fact that you use a turbo boost only to get nowhere is extremely tiresome. I know it frustrates me greatly, it frustrates my sister as well when she plays on it.
But then again I could argue that the game only does this to add an extra incentive. To make it more challenging. Which, of course, it does. If and when you win the race you feel a little bit better because you won even though the computer was cheating. In this sense it’s a good thing, but the fact is that the computers cheating.
You think this is the only time it happens? MK64 again, if the computer player gets hit with something they get blown up like you do, but then they speed off at full speed without needing to build it up at all whereas, you have to build up your speed until it peaks again. This is VERY annoying to me.
It’s not only in Mario Kart that cheating occurs. In the original Excitebike on the NES, when you crash your rider gets flung from the bike and so has to leg it back and jump on again. When the computer players crash though, they stay on their bike and resume driving immediately. It’s quite disturbing to see cheating like this so early on the life of video games.
As I’ve said. This can sometimes be good, because it makes it tougher and so prolongs the lastability. But then again it's incredibly annoying. So why is it there? Do the developers and creators of the games put this in on purpose? Do they intentionally frustrate people by allowing certain privileges to computer controlled characters? Or is it merely a bug?
Hell, if the computer cheats in a game why shouldn't we? It'd even out the field a bit.
Damn Dirty Developers.

I'd almost find that amusing if I knew what the hell you were prattling on about.
3-0 3-0 3-0 3-0
Hail to Gudjohnsen, Zola, Zenden oh and hughes and given for the assist!

Now this I agree with, but things like "infinite ammo" and "god mode" ruin a game if used too early on.
