In a new press release, Nintendo denies that it is willing to sell it's stake in Rare. Full press release below
Nintendo Co. (J.NTD or 7974) Thursday denied a U.S. media report it is "willing to sell" a controlling stake in U.K. game software developer Rare Ltd.
There has been speculation about Microsoft Corp.'s interest in buying Rare to make more software exclusively for its Xbox console. A Nintendo spokesman said, hypothetically, the company would consider what to do with its Rare shareholding if actually contacted by Microsoft or Rare, but there hasn't been any such contact.
Nintendo owned 38% of Rare's voting rights through U.S. subsidiaries at the end of last March, but Rare hasn't supplied any software for Nintendo's GameCube or Game Boy consoles over the past one year or so, the spokesman said.
The Los Angels Times said in a separate report Microsoft is interested in acquiring Rare, citing unnamed sources.
On the Tokyo Stock Exchange Thursday, Nintendo shares ended up 2.6% at Y14,380 Thursday. The Nikkei 225 Stock Average closed up 0.2% at 9415.23.
Ahhh all this speculation, my head hurts...
What I just wrote is about as factual as all these 'hot off the press' announcments, just ignore the rumours and wait for an official announcment.

The online plans haven't started yet. It's still in the beta test stage (which some of the Xbox forumers are part of)
i only know one person who owns an xbox. Nintendo will

I know. But MS are far more experienced in online networks department.
The MSN gaming zone shows that setting up game servers/networks is something they excel in. I know they know jack about making innoative games, but what does that matter when they have people like Sega and Rare to do that for them! :-)
Nintendo are games makers, while MS are large in internet services.
That's why MS have an advantage in this particular area.

4 Gb mem cards?
Are you sure?
I thought that 128Mb was as high as they went.
Besides, these SD memory cards a VERY expensive.
Anyway, there's more to the hardrive than just a large memory card.
Because it's a standard part of the hardware, devellopers can utilise it properly. I'm not sure what they can do with it, but I've heard that it lets them do all sorts.
Don't get me wrong, I still wouldn't choose an Xbox over a Gamecube, but if I can afford both, the Xbox is more than a worthy secondary choice and would fill a lot of gaps that the Gamecube can't handle by itself.

DVD player on xbox- each time you play Xbox game dvd reading head gets worn. So it means the quality of your dvds will never be as great if you had a stand alone dvd player. Yeah I know, but some people especially Proper Fan-Boys, just pee me off when they say that this console has got this and that one aint.

Who needs s DVD player, all you people who own Xboxes, always go on about how it has a DVD player, and the cube doesn't. So what if the cube doesn't have a DVD player. The cube is designed for pure gaming and pure gaming only, and not to play DVDs, Music, etc etc. Most of us will already have DVD players or DVD Drives.
The xbox has a hard drive wow, so does my Computer. Its like people have never seen hard drives before.
Im not critisicing the Xbox. I think the xbox is fine as some of the games are well good. At the end of the day GAMES matter, you are going to play games on a video console. It doesnt matter if a console has a dvd player, Why was the video console designed then? To play games of course.
