Not real women, but TV women, and film women.

Ones that are so obviously written by men that have no clue whatsoever about women.

What I don't get is how come so many female actors are so willing to play these characters and build up this pathetic image of woman that TV and movies creates.

There are only a couple of types of woman, according to what we see.

The first type is powerless against men. She'll do whatever a man asks or suggests. She'll sleep with a bloke, claiming to have been 'seduced' and she will have no will of her own whatsoever. As such we are supposed to believe that she is not to blame for this, and the man is a love rat. This woman happens to represent almost all female characters in soaps.

Seems that these women are never in the wrong, they are merely victims of their own pathetic womanhood.

'Storytelling' really wound me up because of this, well, the first story in it. The female character chats to her teacher in a bar, goes back to his place, performs the sexual acts he asks, then she's claiming to be the victim?

Hello? Was she not able to walk away any time she wanted? But no, for she is woman, and HE did it to her.

Balls. Women do have minds of their own, and are capable of independent choice, and following their own path. There's more to woman that finding a man, and spending the rest of time being manipulated by him.

Hollywood knows this too though, for there is a second type of woman.

The butch action lass. She is sassy and can deliver one-liners. She will even threaten man with violence.

Of course, she will find herself seduced at some point during the movie. Perhaps even by her worst enemy.

Bah! I'm sick of these pathetic, mindless female characters that show up everywhere. You get all types of blokes in movies, with male actors able to express themselves in many different ways for a role. So why are the female characters always so shallow? Is there a lack of decent actresses? It's certainly hard to name actresses that have made great movies over the years in the same way you can string of male actors that have lasted decades because of the range of characters they've portrayed.

Is it just the writing, with the majority of screenplays coming from men?

I really don't get it, and hope one day to see more realistic female characters in movies, ones that you can believe in, rather that the two stereotypes they all seem to fit into at the moment.
