This is a major achievement, we all knew that the Xbox was the most powerful console around. Its certainally got the coolest features such as the broadband modem as standard and the ability to store your own music on the Xbox hard drive... Not to mention the great games such as Halo. But using the Xbox to run linux will open up a whole world of possibilities..
emulators, web browsing, cheaper online xbox gaming, PC emulation and the possibility to play PC games. This combined with the recent price cut of the Xbox in the UK means this is definately the machine to have.
What possibilities do you see this having for the future of the Xbox, and the games industry in general...one thing is certain it certainally makes Sonys PS2 linux kit look expensive!

Still, a lot of disk swapping involved...
I get anoyed at the amount of time it takes to load a program from my HDD, think how long it would take to do everything from CD... especially given the lack of RAM?
Microsoft sues everyone but XboxLinux is open source so it will survive on the web in some country somewhere.
Free Software will live on despite MS big pockets, personally I see nothing wrong with putting Linux on the Xbox.. Its just making the most of what youve paid for, and unleashing the Xboxs full potential.
The Xbox is a - GAMES CONSOLE, not a pc.......
Also Microsoft will pull a nice lawsuit against the Linux-Xboxers, Good ol' MS will sort out the problem.
Why do we need OS on consoles, There is no point, Consoles should be left for gaming only...
Myself I excited about the possibility of emulators on the Xbox (A Dreamcast emulator would be nice).
This development means a world of free office software (e.g. openoffice.org), and browsers (e.g. mozilla) will be available to those people who cant afford a high spec PC and so can only be a good thing.
Its a major event for the Xbox, and given time tweaking with the Xbox someone will get Windows running on the Box!

O, a PC connected to my tv for £150. But that doesn't work, since the majority of software is designed for Windows OS. You cant run an application that requires Windows on a machine that is only running Linux. Heck, I would choose Mac compatibility before Linux.

More than it's worth. But don't try and turn this into a PS2 Vs XBox issue. My main point was that, why would a console suddenly have a surge in sales thanks to linux being available for it? People wont use it to create games/software since that takes design studios ages to do. Anything created in a few days or hours on linux is not going to look like, say MGS2 or GTA3. And since the end result is very basic (and it's time consuming to do), most would not bother with it. Linux doesn't have any effect on the games you buy. They run the same as before - so why bother with Linux on a games console? This is the same for PS2 and XBox.

And how much does that cost then?

They didnt, from what I remember of an article I read a while back on it, it was part of a competition... You had to get Linux up and running on the Xbox, completly, and legally... (no tampering with code/hardware you shouldnt)... I think they had to be able to do it withouth btreaking the warrenty or something? .. I'm a bit hazy, its been a while since I read it
