It seems like every year a new console comes out, and the processing power of PC processors and Graphics Cards increases to previously undreamed levels. So today we can be Thankful that we have Great looking Games Like Quake III, and Soul Caliber on our home machines. Now, dont understand me here, those 2 above mentioned Games are Superb in terms of Graphics, Playability, Lastability.. you name it those games have it.

However as The Machines we play games on increase in power, more and more Games come out that Look Great, Sound Great, but Play extremely poorly. Do you think we have all lost the Plot??? Who are these people who continue to buy releases like the "Spice Girls videogame" a sad affair, and the umpteenth version of Some Wrestling Game just because it looks better, although has no real improvements over the previous version.
Ok I will admit the best Games only get better when you take the graphics and sound to the next level, Graphics and Sound are a Vital Part of any game For Example The great sound adds Atmosphere to the Resident Evil series of Games. But a poor game cannot be improved by making the graphics nicer or the sound crisper...a poor game is a poor game.
We should all look back occasionally and realise that the most important thing about a Game is how it Plays, how it feels, Playability is perhaps the most important thing a game has to offer, with Lastability a close Second.
In light of this Im asking you for your opinions on the above comments, aswell as asking you are there any old Games youve played that perhaps look a bit dated now in the graphics and/or sound departments (compared to the new next generation consoles or Power PCs...Dreamcast etc) but have great Playability and Lastability.

Here are 5 of my Favourite Games, all with great Playability and Lastability:

Goldeneye (N64)... A bit dated in the Graphics department, especially compared to the high res wonders of Perfect Dark, But a great game with Playability and Lastability by the bucketload.

Driver (PSX)... The Original Driver has alot to offer anyone in terms of Playability and hours of Enjoyment, and can now be picked up quite cheaply.

Die Hard Trilogy, with Scorpion Lightgun (PSX)... This game is worth it just for the playability of its shoot em up section, although not as Graphically impressive as House of the Dead 2 on the Dreamcast, it still plays Great. These 2 can now be picked up cheaply together on the Special Reserve site, worth every penny.

MarioKart (SNES)... This game has to be here, compellingly addictive and great fun to play in single or multiplayer modes. Lets just hope the new Gameboy Advance version will be just as good.

Mario64 (N64)... Hours and Hours of exciting gameplay make this a must for anyone, looking graphically dated now but still a extremely playable little number that will have you hooked for months.

So what do you think??

IT IS UP TO THEM JIMMY. If theres one thing that really annoys me, it has to be charity pushers, and FMV.

Sorry, but everybody has a choice. It's only for two weeks, and there is a topic set up for people to read and sign up. There does not have to be adverts everywhere.

I agree, Perfect Dark is an immensly playable game, although it took me a while to get into at first. But after the first few hours play I got the hang of the control system, and I just cant put this game down.

The point is though its a great game because of its great Playability and Lastability.

I thought in terms of playbility Perfect Dark was good, after a few hours you can't stop playing it!
Even if the graphics are almost unbearable, some still, give all the effort towards the playbility of the game, so the graphics are ignored and the fun factor comes in instead.

Even though some Playstation games are not up to standards in graphics Driver was still pretty good, except a bit of hitches, it was fine.
Still they have only one go at making the game and they have to make it good in terms of playability!

I thought PSX was 1995, anyway, it doesn't matter.....

Driver was and still is one of the best of the bunch out of your 5 games there, Die Hard was certainly playable, but didn't have the lasting appeal for me, probably because I never got a lightgun, so my fault.

For sheer longeveity you have to try Final Fantasy 8, that's my all time favorite, as most people now know, and it's where I derived by Username from, funnily enough. I was going to be called Worms, but I think that was taken when I first registered.

a new console every year? well the Saturn came out in 1993, the PSX came out in 1994 that's more than a year ago, the GBC was the newest console before the PSone, and that was more than a year between them!
