I've been thinking, what happens when ALL game ideas have been used. Where will game companies turn to next for inspiration or will it be more sequels with extra bonus stuff???? Well, thinking about it to my horror I realised that as more consoles enter the fray of best games system, ideas are sure to come thick and fast, but what happens when each console has exhasted its games? What will happen when THQ have brought out WWF Racer, WWF Puzzle Game, WWF Supermarket Sweep, WWF Buy This Game & Give Us Cash! etc? Where will THQ get an idea from? I don't know and although this won't happen for years and years it does spawn a small contest between consoles:

Who can think of a brilliant idea, that sells well!"

The point I'm trying to make is that will computer games as we know them stop? Will companies run out of ideas in the future....and if they do will we be ripped off by more pointless sequels? OK I know that this is a long, long, long, long way away and maybe by then people will turn to VR, but I still think that console owners have a doomed future (we're talking about the year 3000 here) But it doesn't matter, because we won't be here anyway at that time.

The reason I'm making this point is this: My 'It's Not That Far Away' message stated that sooner or later we'd hit a wall where technology could go no further. Many disagreed with me, which is fine, so now I put it to you will the production of GOOD VALUE games ever grind to a halt??? Will we ever have shelves stacked high with games that all do the same thing?? - I hope not!

In about 60 years time, when all of us are in our homes waiting for our soup to be delivered, they will release JetPac again, bundled with Sonic, and the new generation will be overjoyed because they have never seen it before.

Then, because we'll just still be able to do it, we can log on here and start on the newbies:

Newbie: "Wow, that Sonic is really cool!"
Grix: "Lol, in my day we had MSR and Shenmue"
Newbie: "Wassat then, who are you."
Grix: "I....I can't remember!"
Newbie: "Are you a regular?"
Tony: "Can we stick to the topic?"
FantasyMeister: "I remember the PS2!"
Grix: "Ah, I remember! I'm, I mean, I'm a REGULAR!"
"So am I." "Who said that?" "That's your other brain, the one that still works." "Eh?"
Ant: "NURSE, WHERE'S MY SUGAR, DAMMIT!"

ONCE YOU POP, ...... can't remember....

Actually I think the problem is the other way around.

It's not that people are short of good new ideas. The real problem is the cost of supporting them. Publishers are stuck in a financial rut. It's safer to continue with a winning formula than it is to take a leap of faith.

Perhaps we should accept games with simpler graphics and more playability?
