As a series of game(e.g ZELDA) changes are made.Like the step from 2D to 3D OR A new storyline and A new start of graphical style(such as Jet Set Radio which I own and love on the DC).But I would also like to think that games stick to their roots.Such as zelda turning out to be a cartoon cel shaded style which i'm sure I will adjust to but ask your selfs
Wouldn't you admire the realistic looks that were once loved?
So the point i'm trying to make to all gamers is that I think games should chnge from there roots but only in moderation!
Unexpected changes aren't departing from the roots. I think that just because you don't like Celda you don't call it an evolution of the game (which it clearly is).
Going back to your original point - You have a good point there - games should keep to their roots, but they shouldn't stay the same each time. If they did so, would we be hearing rumours of Sonic appearing in Mario Kart GC? Or would we be playing a quality, yet extremely short game such as Luigi's Mansion on our GameCubes? Would Tiberian Sun on the PC have been as good as it was if it kept to it's roots?
Changes are good - but only as long as the games feel like they belong to the series they're supposed to.
New games however can be as totally different to anything else as they like.
The change from full 3d to cel-shaded 3d is quite clearly another step, just like from 2d to 3d. Fool.
