I got off the London underground and infront of me (after I had turned round because I went the wrong way...I'm not a city boy) was Earls Court, home to the Playstation Experience. Outside were huge banners and flyers for the event as well as a skating/BMX half pipe. I gave the guy on the door my ticket, in return I received a mini guide map which when handed in on your way out is exchanged for free playstation stuff. As I walked in there were arcade machines spread about in a kind of lounge area, there were also a few of the different colour PS2's hooked up to big flat screens for people to play Tekken 4 and GTconcept to name a few. After looking to see what games were there and realised that I wasn't going to get a turn for a long while, I headed through the doors to the main show.

First impressions...this sucks. It was quite small, real busy and there was this annoying base line that just didn't quit. All around me were stations for each developer/publisher. Activision had the latest instalments in their Tony Hawk's pro skater and Matt Hoffman series as well as Kelly Slater's pro surfer and some over games that didn't seem much cop. THQ had Smackdown: Shut your mouth (4), Scooby Doo and more. I forget what each of the seperate stations had, so I'll just do a general run down of the games on show. The Sims (PS2), Legends of wrestling 2, Tekken 4, Rocky, The Getaway, Stuntman, Auto Modellista and Ratchet and Crank (so many more but they seriously just slipped my mind).

Each game came fully equiped with it's own que of creasy kids and media show offs. You would literaly que for about 10+minutes and play for a small fraction of the time you spent waiting. Because of this I really couldnt be bothered and only played on a few games: Tony Hawk 4, Kelly slater pro surfer, some blading one, which name I forget and Auto Modellista.

Auto Modellista is Gran Turismo if it was a Loony Tunes Cartoon. It is cel shading at it's best, as you burn rubber across the many courses in cars not unlike the ones seen in the GT games. It is fantastic and deserves your attention and money. While I was playing this Tribute to nothing were playing their set of three or four (all sound simular, hard to know when one ends and the next begins) although they got an applause, I dont think they were very well received.

Ratchet and Crank was a new one to me, dont know if any of you have heard or seen of it... But anyways it could easily be Jack and Daxter 2, I didnt play it but the bases, the characters and leval designs just smacked you in the face and screamed JACK AND DAXTER. I hope it doesnt do well, games need more originality...

Speaking of originality do the words Eye Toy, Mean anything to you? If they dont then they shout as it is the future of gaming. Basicaly they had a stage (kinda) and one it were three boxes (kinda) each with a game and a camera inside. People could stand in front of these games and it put them into it. Behind them were three screens so others could see what was going on. The first game was a window cleaning one, the player had a spounge and had to whip the virtual reality windows clean. The second game was kind of weird and had you wearing boxing gloves hitting the things that came onto the screen (pretty much the whack-a-mole of the future). The third was a DJ thing where you had to hit the speakers ...or something like that. Surprisingly the best looking one was the window cleaning one, as the dirt cleared you could see yourself through the glass screen.

There was a main stage where a number of events wer held, each hosted by Zane Lowe (MTV2) and some other lady (Emma someone). These included music performances by Tribute to nothing, DJ sumbody and Romeo from So Solid crew (yea he sucked the most). But best of all was...Tori Wilson, 'who's that?' I hear everyone over 15 yell..she's a wrestler from WWF (WWE...whatever), she did a quick interview, they asked how many guys wanted her to kick our ass....pretty much everyone raised their hand and shouted, then she reffereed a Smackdown 4 match on the big screen and signed a PS2 for the winner....then she went and signed autographs. I qued for about 20minutes but hey it was worth it. When it got to me, she had to pictures left and her body guard (wrestler has a body guard? 2 actualy...doesnt add up really) said she has nothing less to sign, unless you have stuff of your own. When he said this she looked up at us (she was in the middle of signing one for the lady before me) and she held up 2 more to say she had some left still. so I'm like hmm looks like she's got some, go over to her say hi, asks for my name etc etc (normal autograph pracedure).

Anyways...back to the games... Rocky, I wanted to play this, mainly because I wanted to BE Mr. T. Qued for ages, watched match after match of Rocky Vs. a guy who looks like the man who runs my local bike shop. Finally it was my turn, was it good? I dunno, because the damn machine crashed. I saw another screen with it on so went over to that and only had to quew behind one kid. Then that crashed two. Looking around I saw a few consoles in that section had crashed, great demonstration and puplisity, eh? So I didn't get to play Rocky. I also missed out on Matt Hoffan 2, Smackdown 4 and Tekken 4, because I just plain couldn't be bothered to wait.

While I was up in a cafe that over looked the arena you could see into the ECTS floor which was shut off to the public, inside were rooms full of chairs and people handing free cups of drink. The people inside were all from the inderstry and media, sitting around in their suits, talking and smoking. I could only see a few things on show in there, another Eye Toy stage and a stall about Game copy protecting. The people looked so smug and happy with their specal passes that forced the staff to treat them like God (But hey the general public were treated well too, we were like Jesus, lots of jesus' gathered in a hall) and the levels of temptation to moon them through the glass window that seperated us was very high.

I think that's about it. But let me just say, it didn't suck, I had a real good time. Highlights were meeting Tori, Auto Modellista, SD4 on a HUGE cinema-like screen, Tony Hawk 4 and the free gifts. Apon leaving you received a very nice blue Sony PS2 bag, inside was:

The latest issue of OPS2M
Tekken 4 demo
Playstation Experience demo
Yo-Yo
A PS2 pen that lights up blue when you click it (very cool)
Big Activision poster thing featuring Tony Hawk, Matt Hoffman etc
A few postcards
A PS2 T-shirt
Stickers
And some other demo disc

Was it worh going...yup it was.

Oh and I almost forgot, they had the PS2 Hard drive on show, including it's packaging. The logo on it's box is a P then two D's that look like retarded 2's from the PS2 logo.

...I just wish I took my camera....and got to beat the hell outta Stalone as MR. T..ah well maybe someday...

Thanks for reading, and if you have tickets booked (I think you can buy on the day, but dont hold me to that) have a good time and I hope i didn't spoil it for you.

Hmm ok lets get this back to topic shall we? Maybe you two could start a seperate topic for that? :D

I forgot to say earlier who else was there...Lara Croft. That's right some lady dressed up as Lara, she looked more like the character than Jolie did. All she did was walk about on stage, jumping, and pretending to shoot fake guns. Then she was also signing autographs, once againb massive ques. I didn't see the point in waiting about 20minutes to get the autograph of someone dressed as a computer games character.
