Q: what’s the worst game you can play? A: a game based on a film.
The game and film industries seem to be locked in a loop where good games are consistently made into bad films and good films made into bad games. The latest example is Resident Evil, a great game with a good plot that’s easily transferable to film, and the potential to attract a larger audience of people other than those who’ve played the game.
Instead, we get some rubbish about a super-computer. Did the produces and directors even play the game? As a Resident Evil fan, I was hoping for a dark, chilling film along the lines of zombies, event horizon or the thing not the monster equivalent of a teen horror flick. This seems to be the problem with most films based on games. The directors and producers think that gamers are either too young or too stupid to understand a good story, and this justifies a shoddy film that would never be made if not for the easy association with a large potential audience. Final fantasy, Tomb Raider and now resident evil are all guilty of dubbing down in a patronising attempt to gain gamers interest.
The same principle is at work when films are turned into bad games MIB2 is a perfect example. A good well-developed game would gain greater sales and even drive more people to watch the movie. The best movie tie-in games have been those where the movie itself has been out ages, like Die Hard Trilogy and Alien Resurrection. In this area, I have high hopes for The Thing, The Terminator and aliens colonial marines.
Maybe the films based on games should also be made about ten years after the games are released, giving them the time to put a good script together, rather than one written a week before the game franchise dies, if so, let’s hope we don’t see the movie versions of Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, Medal Of Honour and Max Payne for a while yet.

What are your thoughts on this issue?
As for the game i think it was at least the best FPS ever.
The competion its got is from PD but that whole bond feel manages to keep it up with the challenge of PD extras.
I wonder if PD was made around another bond film how much of a diffrence it would make, yes the name would be diffrent i know, but i mean with the "bond" feeling again and the extras it would have been the best ever.
Just the story line maybe would have let it down.
As for other games-movies movies-games i think most of them are rubbish, spiderman for one. The game not based around the moive (on PS1) was a good game then when it went as the movie it turned bad.
I liked the tomb raider movie though.
i liked tomb raider thought it was really really good hehe
And yes there will be a film called Freddy Kruger Vs Jason Vorhies(?) It will be done sometime in the future before
Friday the 13th XI.
> Talking about bad movie to game transfers, what about the PS2 version

No you can say Crap :o)
Or alien vs predator, I know there was never a film of this title, but the games were very good, and they were based on the actual alien and predator films.
sometimes it works, although only in the film to game direction, the other way usually sucks. mortal kombat and its 'sequel' were the worst pieces of garbage ever.
