Ok, so perhaps this is better in the sport forum, but they're all big hairy rugby players in there ;-)

Well, to cut a long story shorter than the tail on a Manx cat, I took my first belt test in Taekwondo today and passed. Pretty intense testing, but strangly fun at the same time.

It feels so good to have an orange belt now. Yeah, I know some of you already have higher belts in this or other martial arts, but I don't care, I just feel good that I got this one and I'm on the long road (4 years) to getting a Black Belt.

I wouldn't mind doing some martial arts. Boxing only gets you so far, and you'd be surprised just how many blokes box (you think you can chin anyone who starts on you because you box and they don't, but there's a good chance they're harder than you)

My mate does whin chung (however you spell it) and it works well when he spars against us boxers

Tae Kwon Do is good for people who want to take up a career as professional dancers, so well done if that is your course in life.

If you wanted to be hard, then you chose the wrong martial art.

I just acheived a blue belt in Jujitsu recently, which rules because I can put any 'hard' people in my year into submission with my thumb and forefinger.
Also it means I can Spar with my mate who is brown belt in Judo and a bit older than me.

and i quote:

belts mean nothing, action means everything

"like a finger pointing to the moon, look not at the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory"

no charge for that.

seriously though, well done chief. I need to pull my finger outta my *ss and take my next grading. Want to really perfect my current syllabus first though...

They introduced Orange before Yellow for the UK and US a while ago now. Some organisations have taken it up and some haven't, but then I'm going to a club that belongs to the organisation that has a movie star and one of the most famous Grand Masters around, AIMAA.

They change the rules every so often it seems, such as doing 1 Steps instead of 3 Steps for the first 2 belts.
