Oh! Woe is me! I was so looking forward to getting one too. A discussion on an American BBS today was debating the pros and cons of the PS2. Then general consensus is that the current crop of games could just as easily be played on the DC albeit at a slightly slower frame rate. They were saying that it's still not worth buying over there until a larger catalogue of games has been built up.

It's not all doom and gloom though. They agree with the general opinion here that the games will get better as the developers get to grips with the PS2's architecture. However, one PS2 reviewer who borrowed his friend's PS2 and played SSX, Dynasty Warriors and NHL, decided that for the current price ($300!) the PS2 was not worth it and they had decided to hold out for the X-Box.

So, my mind is made up. DC for Chrimbo and hold out for the X-Box. Hmmmm....but then there's The Bouncer, Final Fantasy, Ridge Racer V, Fantavision.....damn!

HEHE, good goin.
No offense, but PuLsEd OuT, your a little bit dim...
The PS2 will have 50 games by next march?? By the way things are looking it you will be VERY lucky if ANY of those games are good whilst us DC owners can revell in the fact that we are getttin 50 at least average games by Christmas.
The PS2 is getting 16 at launch!! HAHA
The DC already has over 150, 50 of which are AAA. The PS2 is not going to have a triple A title untill over a year a way. And yes, Im goin to classify a PS2 as a console because thats all it is if anything. DC can play all PS2 games, not slower but better because of the 4MB extra RAM AND the antialiasing, how long will it take u guys to learn that mhz. dont matter???
Be happy playing midnight run at Chrimbo, or at least try to whilst im playing Shenmue, Jet Set, F355, Quake III, Sega GT and MANY MANY more.

As far as the PS2 games go, thats exactly what i've been thinking Grix.

When i actually stopped to look at the titles then actually look into them more, there wasn't really much to make me think "i have to have this on the release date".

If the dreamcast wasn't out, then i probably would have been more motivated cause when you get that initial jump from the performance of say a PS1 and N64 to a PS2, it tends to draw you in because of the far superior graphics, sound, etc.

But with the dreamcast already out for over a year now, the PS2, with the exception of its DVD playing capability isn't particularly a massive leap in performance.

I remember when the PS1 was on its way. The best i'd played on was my SNES and Neo Geo CD. One day i walked into Toys R Us with my cousin (around a month before the PS1's release date) and there was one on display with Toshinden running on it. My jaw just dropped, i was used to Streetfighter graphics and here was a game with characters fighting in 3D !!!
After seeing that i immediately saved all my money at work, even doing overtime to get extra so i could get other stuff with it. The morning it came out, i took the day off work and litterally got up at the crack of dawn and raced out to pick up my PS with an extra controller, Toshinden and Wipeout. I still remember how great that feeling was :-)

I had a similar time with the Dreamcast. I picked up Ready 2 Rumble boxing, Sonic and Tokyo Highway Battle at midnight - some of you will probably remember that being on the news ;-)) Yup, i was one of those people who had to have it at the earliest time ;-))

I think theres always a big buzz in buying a new console when its taking that next major step :-)
Not so excited about the PS2 though cause its really only doing a few minor improvements over the dreamcast, so i'm quite happy to stick with my dreamcast and play the ongoing exciting games that are coming out for it :-)

The PS2 is a console. It was designed as a console, and it plays console games. The fact that it plays DVD's is like the fact that you get a free cd on the front of PC magazines. Yes the CD is there, but it is still a magazine.

No offence Pulsed.

And also, the console may have the most games at launch, but not all that many are really good. And hardly any are worth buying. (There is a difference.)

Out of interest Pulsed, will you be getting a PS2 on release?

I think i've had the most powerful console on earth quite a few times.

Lets face it, a couple of years time and the PS2 will lose that title to the next console. The games complimenting it are more important than the machine having a slightly better framerate.

Right now i think the DC is under no massive threat from the PS2 because it has to catch up with quality games. The PS2 has the potential to do this but at the moment its gotta get off the ground.

Dunno bout the rest of you but I'd rather have the shoe box with trainers in rather than the pretty shoe box with balls all inside ;-p

PS2 $300 and pound.
It's not a "con" i think alot of people forget the capabilites of this machine. The PS2 shouldn't be priced as a console because it is so much more. You are right when you say The Dreamcast could play some of the games but at a slower rate, this is because the launch games are far inferior compared to the games that will be out in the future for the PS2, also for your money you have the most powerful console on earth, a DVD player, Hi-Fi internet capabilties that will be up and running next year, plus tons of port sockets for connections to lots of other machines. O and also for your money you get a YBasic programme to make your own games which you can entertain your self for ever and remake your own version of them old classics.

The PS2 is not worth buying till theres more games out? It has more then any other System at it's launch. and around 50 by March. I'm not saying dont buy the DC. The DC is good but it has different types of games to Sony, but the X-Box is a way off the Game Cubes release date is nearer then that. I am Loyal to Sony but i dont think i am being biased towards them.
