Hello, can someone recommend a replacement for Notepad. I tried installing Notepad ++ but AVG said something about a trojan.

Thanks in advance.

On the cover disk of the latest PC PRO mag (3 ssues for £1) thats almost FREE :) you get textpad 5.5 also notepad 2 and PS Pad Eitor! 4.5.3 no less in fact more text editors than you can shake your mag at lol and you get a free toolkit! naturally after the three trial issues you can unsubcribe and then sign up again :)

Conscience? I'm always paying for things that help me with my work :) oh and thanks for the free help guys ;)

Unfortunately Textpad failed the first test. It didn't recognise Chinese or Japanese characters. So I'll try the other ones on the list.

UltraEdit isn't free but it is a good editor. We use it all the time.

Well cool kids have money to spend on worthy products. :)
Its only your conscience that requires you to pay for Textpad actually. And we all know Machie doesnt have one.

Anyway, there are literally a million notepad replacements out there at this point. Its hard to claim any of them are really better than their rivals. Its more down to interface preference. I stuck with Textpad for its simplicity. All I ever wanted was multi-document editing and some text highlighting.

So take a look at...

Textpad :P
Notepad2
Ted notepad
Textedit
Win32pad
Notepad Pro+
BDV
PSPad
UltraEdit (dont remember if this is free or not)
MetaPad

Never tried textpad but I quote from the site

"There is no charge for the download, but you must pay for the software if you decide to keep it. A single user license costs only £16.50 GBP (approximately $32 USD)" :|

I certainly hope it doesn't because many of us have it installed here :s Where did you get it from? Here is the official link. I use it all the time I find it quite a useful replacement to notepad.
