Helen Rollason Heal Cancer Charity
On July 15th 2004 my father lost his battle with lung cancer and passed away at the Cheltenham General Hospital. He had already survived cancer 2 decades ealier, but this time it was too much for him. "I will survive this, I will!" are the last few words he said to me. Even to the very end he didn't give up and was determind to beat it. He was still in his early 50s.
Unfortunately I am sure I am not the only person to have lost someone to cancer. It has damanged many families and taken many lives. I would want more than anything to have a cancer free world, but for now all I can do is help raise money to support people with their fight against cancer.
Freeola has kindly pledged an incredible 120 to the charity
Great Ormond Street Hospital
Great Ormond Street Hospital treats more than 90,000 patients each year - children who are suffering from the rarest, most complex and often life-threatening conditions. GOSH provide these children with the best medical care that money can buy. With your donations we can help these children and give them the support they need. We were all children once and it must be terrible for them to go through this. So please if you can, pledge a donation and show your support.

I decided awhile ago that I would use the Freeola forum and have a 24 hour postathon. It's a good way to get you all involved and hopefully be more worthwhile than a 24 hour Simpsons marathon. So this Thursday as soon as the day begins I will start my challenge and you can follow my progress throughout the day.
Apart from the odd "stay-awake" at school I have not done anything for charity before. This will be my first fundraise and I hope to do many more in the future (marathons, etc).
If anyone is able to help and sponsor me (even £1 would be generous) please post a pledge in the thread provided. You can pay your donation via Paypal, Postal Order or Cheque.

If you have any ideas or comments or what have you, feel free to leave a reply or email me. Thank you :)

I strongly disagree. Diversity and unique ideas are they key element. In the past my kids have been sponsored for running around the school playing field a few times, which is a lot easier than posting on here for 24 hours.
I hope people will support Machie by providing some stimulating conversation on the day.

That's true biglime and I'd love to do a marathon eventually, but I wanted to do something unique and it's not going to be something as simple as chatting on a forum. There will be a lot of things for other people to get involved in, competitions, stories, debates, articles, my quiz night. If I can make the day entertaining for everyone, raise some money for charities and spread cancer awareness then it'll all be worth it.

I can enter all the information and whatnot for ID, but I'll need two members who want to be Mods to supply their Email addresses as well. So if anyone wants to mod the ID forum, post in here with your Email I guess.

I'm sure in the past people have been sponsored for far easier things... Like 24hr gaming marathons... I mean all you do there is get a few mates together and play multiplayer on something for a day... Hardly a challenge. Or the classic 'sitting in a bath of beans' which is not really any effort at all. Okay, it might feel a bit 'ewww', but it's hardly a difficult task. At least this is imaginative, even if it's not strictly 'hard' to do. Anyway, from the sounds of it Machie has lots of stuff planned aside from simple posting. And it's for charity. Stop being so negative :P
I'll see if I can find some money to pledge...

It's been so long since I've done any real writing, but I will do stories and interactive stories. Looking at what I've prepared, the creative forum will get a lot of activity :D
Oh that would be really great pb, anything small would be wonderful if you can spare it.

Wow already 3 pledges, I'm shocked, thank you so much Tony, Torquay Utd! and Miss Leading. Extremely generous of you all. ^_^
> Bah! I could go 48 hours! :-D
Can I come to the funeral? :)
If I were to post every minute for 24 hours, that would add up to 1,440 posts. Don't think I'll be that "extreme" heh, but certainly in the 1000 range. When I think about it, it's actually going to be harder than I thought, I would find a marathon much easier I'm sure. I've always enjoyed running and was quite good at school.
No presure, Machie.
I thought about having a DVD marathon too. I usually watch stuff when I'm on the computer. I wonder if I can watch all of Futurama in 24 hours.
