I fancy getting a 5.1 speaker set that I can wire up to my PC and my PS2. Anyone know of a decent one which I could get my hands on for up to £100? £50 would be nicer!

Thanks

Just got the 5.1 Live card and the 5300 speaker set for just over £90 delivered.

Sorry SR but your prices were too high!

Ta AMD_MAN

I may just go for that. I have been looking at some Creative sound cards. If the Live one is good then I may invest.

If you're on a bit of a budget the SB Live 5.1 is a good card. The Audigy is good if you want the real deal - I will probably be upgrading soon from my Live 5.1. To be honest though, it won't be until I get my proper soundsystem hooked up to it, as satellite speakers (as nearly all PC speaker systems are) don't usually have the depth to distinguish - quality wise - between the Live and Audigy.

On the other hand, the Audigy has some very funky ports on it.

A word on Audigys: There are a few types. First, your standard PCI-card model. Secondly, the Extigy, which is external and sits on your desk, like a USB modem, and connects via USB. Don't bother with it.

There may also be another type, which goes in a 5 1/4 inch bay like a CD-ROM drive, but I'm not sure if it's actually an Audigy.

Yep you will probably need a new sound card, go for the sound blaster live player 5.1 or better than that go for the sound blaster audigy.

Cheers Turbonutter. I've had a look at those.

Just one more question. I guess they will connect to my PS2 with no real probs as it has an optical output. Will I need a new sound card for my PC? I'm not sure if mine has surround sound capabilities as I bought it a couple of years ago when I knew nothing about PCs. (not that I know that much now :-))

Creative Inspire 5.1s are good. Can't remember how much they are, but I wouldn't have bought them if they were more than £100. Should be compatable with your PS2 too.
