I've been thinking, there couldn't be much of a point to continuing our lives with new medicine and technology because the sun WILL die out in 3 billion years (if we haven't already killed ourselves by then) I know that is a long time but there is no way of avoiding the end of the world then, and we can't move to a new planet because light speed travel is apparently impossible, and even light speed would be too slow anyway, it would still take years to reach even the nearest star so Earth is screwed and everything anybody does is pointless because they will eventually die and so will everybody after them and it will get to the point when no-one is there to come after. Does anybody agree with me, and yes, i know how long 3 billion years is but its an unavoidable fact that life on this planet, and every planet, is limited and our "rent money" only covers us until then.

pessimists are the happiest people alive. 90% of the time they are right, 10% of the time they are pleasantly surprised.

If things are so bad, how have we got this far? Paedophiles are a tiny percentage of the population, as are murderers, psychopaths etc.

The real problem it seems is pessimism. To think that we are beyond help is not only wrong, but could be the problem itself. If everyone thinks like you, we would all top ourselves now and have done with it.

Fortunately there are people with high IQs and the mental stability to succeed. These are the people sitting in labs around the world, trying hard to devise new methods for people like me and you, to survive. So start talking and acting positive, because if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem..........

what i'm saying is i don't think ppl realise how insignificant they are and have big ideas of themselves when in actual fact they are wasting their time, i would like to believe that we will have that kind of technology in 3 billion years but with the way children are brought up nowadays it is unlikely the ppl of the future will be anything more than bigotted idiots with no regard for the planet, their home. No i'm not a hippie but it is true, we are destroying ourselves.

an example of this, a friend recently said to me "if a meteor is going to hit earth, they could put everybody on a spacecraft and fly to another earth-like planet"

he thought we had that kind of technology and could do that, when i said the fastest they can get shuttles to leave earth at is around 18miles per second, he said "holy sh**, thats really fast"

it is this kind of opinion/knowledge that will lead to our downfall,

note:THEY COULD, he thinks someone else can do it

i'm kind of saying society is now useless, murderers, paedophiles etc. we may as well give up on our own kind - for every good person there are 50 bad.............

Or alien races.
But 3 billion years is a long time, by then (if we survive) we will be travelling dimensions and galaxies with technologies incomprehensible.
And what are you saying Memo? That we should all just stop because we will die in the long run? Were still driven by that instinct to survive.

In 2000 years we've gone from knuckle-scrapping to Windows XP. 2000 years in a tiny proportion of 3 billion years. Hell, by then we'll have bug-free releases of Windows 3B and we'll all live underground near the earth's remaining warmth.

Oh and SR'll have given away about 100 billion globedollars of free games and micro-films

3 billion years is far too far away to even think about.

If we are still here, and I think the chances of that are extremely remote, then it is conceivable to think that 3 billion years of research and technology could well devise a method to leave our solar system and find somewhere else.

But the human race is too primitive to live another 3 billion years. If we don't kill ourselves with nuclear weapons, then the viruses we are slowly losing the battle with, or new strains of diseases will seal our fate.....

Sure, we'll all die, but you can still enjoy your life.

The world ending? If it does go like that, you and everyone you care about will be long gone anyway, so it's not going to be all that important, right?
