Though I think hes referring to the target audience...
Rather like a TV is used in excatly the same way both by kids and adults, Childrens BBC programs tend not to include as much swearing, smoking, explicit sex as their post watershed counterparts?

Uh?
After all, the game looks as though it was designed for a younger audience anyway, it's not like you see blood dripping out of fresh wounds when you attack an enemy or get attacked!
Anyway, the X-box and Playstation 2 are both just as much toys that you play with as the GameCube is.

Anyway this isn't Nintendo's choice to take out the chracters smoking and drinking this is Sega's you annoying little scroat. I wouldn't say it's adult content anyway, I don't think it's right to show chracters smoking and drinking, it's almost as bad as advertising tabacco at sporting events and this coming from someone who smokes (I must be stupid).
As for the American adverts for Mario SUnshine, it's obviously what appeals to the Americans, if you watch the Japanease adverts thery're perfectly normal.
Maybe American games players brains have gone AWOL or something?
