The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
There have been some suggestions to regulate this, but the fact is that none have been practical and hence gone unused. The FOG Prime is the only forum not filled with junk, for the main reason that noobs aren't allowed.
My suggestion is, that a user should have to have posted 100 or more posts before he's allowed to start a topic. That way, only 'returning' members can post, and the amount of spam from new users will go down loads.
I doubt this will be used, but I think it's a good suggestion and all. A lot of spam comes from people new to SR who don't know what they're doing. If they have to have posted 100 posts before starting a topic, they'll appreciate the reasons why - spam is bad.
Another good thing is that it will make current topics, good, decent, debate-provocative subjects actually busy. It means there will be fewer main topics being chatted in at a time, meaning they will be more ongoing. Since I came on the forums last night, none of the topics then are on now. This means that when I post, I just respond to the main post. We actually need 'discussions' not plain old replying.
So, do you think this is a good idea? I do. Lets see what those staff bods have to say about it though...
