Spam is everywhere. When I first came to the forums, it wasn't that rife, just an odd noob or two, filling the forums with junk. Well, browsing the forums today, I see far too much spam to believe.

There have been some suggestions to regulate this, but the fact is that none have been practical and hence gone unused. The FOG Prime is the only forum not filled with junk, for the main reason that noobs aren't allowed.

My suggestion is, that a user should have to have posted 100 or more posts before he's allowed to start a topic. That way, only 'returning' members can post, and the amount of spam from new users will go down loads.

I doubt this will be used, but I think it's a good suggestion and all. A lot of spam comes from people new to SR who don't know what they're doing. If they have to have posted 100 posts before starting a topic, they'll appreciate the reasons why - spam is bad.

Another good thing is that it will make current topics, good, decent, debate-provocative subjects actually busy. It means there will be fewer main topics being chatted in at a time, meaning they will be more ongoing. Since I came on the forums last night, none of the topics then are on now. This means that when I post, I just respond to the main post. We actually need 'discussions' not plain old replying.

So, do you think this is a good idea? I do. Lets see what those staff bods have to say about it though...

The only best solution to spam is to give all users a 'Delete this damnable Spam' button. So we can regulate the forum ourselves.

So if a post gets more than 20 people asking for it to be removed, it will be removed.

Either that or have 24 hour moderator coverage.

Damn good idea that 1/2 pint. I didn't start a topic for ages and although, admittedly it was pretty poor, it was'nt classed as spam.

Then i realised what to post and what not to. Drunk cow take note please. It worked for me. Anyway, hopefully a staffy will take heed of this at some point and take it into consideration.

I think it would make newbies 'value' starting topics, so when they can finally start them, they'll appreciate not to just spam. I think.

This might make newbies just POP 100 old topics to be able to post one topic.

That's even more spam.

I think it'd just put more people off. SR already say not enough people come to the site. I think it's because of the whole having to get to a regular thing and If another barrier was created then they'd be nobody left.

They only way to get rid of those that spam is to not reply to their posts. Except when somebody does spam, everybody rushes to the post to tell them that they're spamming....
