I read it many times before film, including for the first time when I was 7. I also have read the Silmarillion, which rocks. And the book is still better than the film. And ta :)

Not only have I read all of J.R.R's middle earth work I have also read many of Christopher Tolkiens Adapatations.

And in the "Tales of Tom Bombadil it reads"

"Tom is old, nearly as old as the trees
He has survived all of the ages on Goldberrys knee"
