According to www.bbc.co.uk news of Rare's buyout has finally come to light.
It had been strongly rumoured and many disbelieved it would happen. Also, no one could have guessed who finally bought them out. Many thought that Activision were the main company up to take pickings, followed quite narrowly by the money laden Microsoft. But no! The company to finally buy out Rare was none other than... Armitage Shanks!
Yes you heard it right. The greatest toilet manufacturer the world has ever seen has bought out Rare.
What does this mean to you and me. Well the next and last ever Rare game will be Starfox Adventures. After this all Rare's design and development will switch to novelty toilets. Much like those seen in Japan, which talk to you, or play funny sounds.
Here is what Chris Stamper had to say on the subject :-
"It's been up for discussion for quite a while now. We're all completely sick to death of computer games. We've been creating them for too many years now. Since the speccy when we created fantastic games like Saber Wulf under the development company Ultimate Play The Game, to the present day with games like Banjo Kazooie on N64. But times have changed! The games market is taking a plunge and we've decided to get out while we can. So after the release of Starfox Adventures we are going to join up with Armitage Shanks to concentrate on creating the greatest toilets and other bathroom necessities. Everyone knows the toilet experience needs to be a comfortable and enjoyable time, so we believe we can capitalise on this market and make MILLIONS!"
So there you have it. This really is unsuspected news that no one was expecting to hear. But I guess it was only a matter of time after not hearing from Rare with regards to new games for such a long time.
But I guess in the future it will pay off when we're all siting on the most comfy seat when ... doing the business.

:)

{please note the above is completely fictional and any resemblance to real people etc is complete coincidental!}
