"Bad Press For Chat Rooms"

I'm watching the news, and they are talking about two 10 year olds who have gone missing. They think that they have been abducted by someone that they talked to on internet chat rooms. The press as usual are making it sound like Chat rooms are very dangerous.

Have any of you ever met anyone you first spoke to over the internet. Would any of you?

But the issue here is why their parents allowed 10 yr old girls internet access, unsupervised, At such an impressional age, who knows what was said, and what effect it could have. But I fear that all chat rooms/forums might be tarred with the same brush.

You just have to be sensible, and do stuff like don't give your address out, and take people with you are are going to meet someone.

I was fortunate I gave my address and phone number to someone, but the worst I got was a lot of phonecalls and presents sent to me. I won't be doing it again. Although the Address I gave out was for a Hall of residence at University, so I think I would have been safe anyway.

I would consider meeting someone if I could take a friend with me.

Just as I read this my mum called me downstairs like sounding REALLY angry and asked me if I knew the guy I gave my address to (Mr. Happy) so he could send me some CD's.

I laughed in there faces and used the quote Sheepy made.

I've talked to some people on here for 2 years and I'd still be a bit scared to meet some of them :)

I saw a picture of them in Menorca... same place where I was just a few weeks ago, was quite scary.

Always a shame when kids go missing/abducted etc.

The media however always aim for parents who have never been on forums/chat rooms and make it out that anyone who uses net is a pervert.
