"GameCube Beating Xbox
But not for long, say analysts.
August 06, 2002 - According to a Reuters report released today, Nintendo's next-generation GameCube console has amassed a considerable hardware sales lead over Microsoft's Xbox platform since the two systems debuted worldwide. But this could be a short-lived lead if analysts are to be believed.
GameCube has sold through 4.8 million pieces of hardware around the globe compared to 3.8 million Xbox units, cited a study conducted by the Ziff Davis Media Game Group, which polled some 2,000 videogame players.
Interestingly, though, the study also showed that 15 percent of those surveyed wanted to buy an Xbox compared to just nine percent GameCube. Based on those results, the Media Group projected that Xbox will see a total installed base rise to 13.7 million homes globally in 2003 versus 11.2 GameCube owners in the same year.
More as it becomes available."
So the X-Box should be picking up soon.
Notice however that that leaves 76% (Probably mostly PS2).
This will stop all the "Gamecube is doing better" ... "No. X-Box is doing better" posts.
Also Bioware games are now exclusive to the X-Box.

That serves them right for expecting a Mario 64 style revolution.
Games aren't moving into 3D so there isn't scope for that sort of revoultion. Halo never had that sort of expectation weighed upon it.

I don't. I played it with an open mind and enjoyed it (not the first time I played it, but once I found out how to change the controls, it was great fun).
I would get it only getting the Xbox, 4 pads, the game and a link up cable would cost around 300 quid. I think I could get more from 300 quids worth of GC games.
> Gamecube is doing a lot better currently than the XBox
Not really, 4 million xboxs to 5 million GCs. Japan is causing Xbox alot of problems, europe is doing alrite now and Xbox is doing good in the US.
If Xbox, or indeed GC gets that killer game, sales will soar.

Not really. My opinion would still be the same. Its an excellent game, but in no way perfect, and I shouldn't be saying that because Bungie were originally making it for the Macintosh!

:| 9/10 though. :)
Mario Sunshine has done as much, if not more, to the Platformer as Halo has to the FPS.
Yes, it doesn't completely revolutionise 3D gaming like Mario 64 did but was it meant to?
Halo, took the best of current FPS, added a few neat ideas and tricks and took the genre forward. Mario Sunshine has taken the base of Mario 64, improved on it incredibly (as good as Mario 64, the worlds first proper 3D platformer wasn't going to be perfect the first time round).
The level design has been cleverly done, the control of Mario has been polished to absolute perfection while the adding of the water gun has given a fresh new twist to the gameplay.
Its like the difference between Super Mario Brothers on the Nes (a revolutionary game redifining the platforming genre), and Super Mario World on the Snes (not quite so revolutionary but a hell of a lot better from smoother gameplay, new ideas to more imaginative and cleverly designed levels).
Anyway, the battle between the Xbox and Gamecube is almost irrelevant.
The Gamecube is unique in it's original quirky fun games like Pikmin.
It also has the cream of other genres but these unique little gems are it's main selling point.
The Xbox is competing against the PS2.
Both consoles go for realistic games and like to think of themselves as "mature". A different market to the Gamecube.
The result?
The Gamecube will get comfortable "middling" sales - enough for a VERY tidy profit but no market domination.
It won't outsell the winner of the PS2 Vs Xbox battle but will leave the other one in the dust.
Currently, the PS2 is trouncing the Xbox, down to the fact that it's been around for longer and has picked up a strong library of games.
I personally think that the Xbox is much better than Sony's machine but that doesn't mean that the rest of the world think so.
Do you see.

I read an indepth played preview by Cube, a review by gamesradar and a review by NGC and they say it is awesome, incredible, it is original enough to feel fresh and familiar enough to feel mario, 8 years worth the wait.
