I got my PS2 on Saturday for my birthday, and here's the games I got (I got 7 of them about a month before the console off EBay, and some I bought in the last two days :D):

Legends of Wrestling - 8/10
WWF Smackdown: Just Bring It - 8/10
Shadow of Memories - 9/10
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - 10/10
Summoner - 7/10
Extermination - 9/10
Burnout - 8/10 (although I little overrated, IMHO)
Iss Pro 2000 - 10/10
Gran Turismo 3 - 10/10
Timesplitters - 10/10

And here's what's on my list to get:

Devil May Cry
Tekken Tag Tournament
Grand Theft Auto 3
Dynasty Warriors 2 (Getting off EBay for £8)
Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex
James Bond: Agent Under Fire

SSX Tricky
Headhunter
Onimusha Warlords

Final Fantasy X

Haven't got it myself, but friends of mine say it's great, especially if your a fan of the series.

Devil May Cry

A good action game, one of my favourites on the PS2 right now. Though it has to be said, once you've completed it, there isn't much to tempt you to play it again. Still a good game though.

Tekken Tag Tournament

Apparently, not much changed from the previous tekken games in this titles outing. I'd wait for tekken 4, or if your impatient, Virtual Fighter 4.

Grand Theft Auto 3

One of the best games on the PS2 at the moment. I'd get this now if I where you, so you have a chance to sample the game before Vice City is released.

Dynasty Warriors 2 (Getting off EBay for £8)

Love this game, and it's great if you liked the old school 2D beat em ups like Streets of Rage. It is repetitive, but it's fun, and only £8, which is a very good price.

Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex

Another game, which is a graphical update of the previous game in the series, nothing more. Wait for Jak and Daxter to go on platinum, which I hear won't be long.

James Bond: Agent Under Fire

Don't even think about parting over £30 for this game, it's crap. Rent it if you must, but the only thing that'll entertain you here are the driving levels. The rest of the game is pants. Instead I recommend Half Life or Timesplitters, much better games.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3

On platinum now I think, I haven't got the game yet, but I've read and heard enough to know this is a great game, and apparently the best in the Tony Hawks series yet.

State of Emergency

It's a fun game, but it does get repetitive. It's also a bit on the easy side in places, and the areas you fight in are a bit small. I'd rent it first, so you can see if it'll be a worthy full purchase.

SSX Tricky

I had the original game SSX as one of the first game on my PS2, and it was a must title. I'd say the same about Tricky as it adds a ton load of cool new stuff, which makes this great game even better.

Headhunter

A good alternative to MGS2, though I wouldn't call it an essential game to own.

Onimusha Warlords

A Short but a very good survival horror, its another game on platinum right now, and it's certainly worth every penny of the £20 it cost. A great game if you’re a fan of the survival horror genre, and looking for something different.

Silent Hill 2

I found the resi sequel on PS2 disappointing, but SH2, I feet is a great game. Maybe not as good as the original, but it still comes with the dense atmosphere and scary environments and monsters which made the original game so fun to play.

Crazy Taxi (Getting off EBay for £11.50)

Another game which isn't essential, but it is bloody good fun. It's an arcade game so don't expect a great amount of veriaty in the game play, but if you play the game in short burst, you'll get hours of entertainment from it. You can't go wrong with £11.50 anyway.

In my opinion you should get these games LF:

Virtua Fighter 4 - if you like Kung-Fu and all that kind of stuff, it's great!

Smash Court Tennis - this is also on my list of games to get mainly because I need a tennis sim for my PS2, and this is supposedly the best one.

Devil May Cry - fantastic action thriller that'll get your adrenaline pumping for a while but there's not too much replay value.

Pro Evo 2 - definitely one to get. It's out in October but if I can wait, so can you :)

Pro Evolution Soccer - if you can't wait this is the next best thing but remember October's just around the corner.

MOH: Frontline - everyone seems to love it so get it!

There's plenty more reccomendations I could give you but these should do for now. And if you're wanting any more DVDs, I would also reccomend Lord of the Rings (not that I need to anyway).

LoL! I've played it round my mates, and it's true, all true! Though, the level variety rocks! :D

I have it on Dreamcast, but my dad wants me to get rid of our Dreamcast, so he's making me get it on PS2 :P :( No more Shenmue :(:(:(:(

Get GTA3 deffinate and Tony Hawks (wait til it's Platinum)
The rest of the games depend on your taste. If you like that genre, go for it!

Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex - Good variety in this platformer, great fun, however loading times a long between levels. 8/10

State of Emergency - Similar to GTA 3 but you are situated in a shopping mall and have to carry out activities for gangs, good game some people say its not as good as GTA 3 but I disagree and enjoy playing this game, specially when drunk :-) 7/10

SSX Tricky - In my opinion, this is one of the best games ever to be released on the PS 2 and is great fun, you'll nver get bored of it. 9/10

Crazy Taxi - you can get this game fairly cheap on e-bay or used, its good fun, but only a few hours worth, can get tedious, but for £11.50 you cant go wrong. 7/10
