Music is the new media segment of my life; lately it has consumed more of my time and money (Don’t I know the latter) than Video games. Nevertheless no matter how cool Bowling for Soup are and how awesome Green Day can be they still lack the magic that is present in Nintendo games… And so I begin a quest to construct the Nintendo band. Not the Nintendo Teenage robots (of whom you may of heard of) but a band constructed by Nintendo themselves.
The nice Nintendo record label would be imprinted on their CD cases, they wouldn’t release tasters of their music in the form of singles. And they would be the best band in the world. Yet the Nintendo band would be manufactured from the best that Nintendo’s designers can create and below is what they come up with.
Vocalist: Jigglypuff
Jigglypuff’s sweet voice can be heard echoing throughout the land, the voice of the Pink fluffy Pokémon is said to send people to sleep with its calming nature and incredible sounds. Jigglypuff uses a micropen, a microphone crossed with a pen used for signing autographs on the faces of sleeping listeners. Jigglypuff’s voice was chosen out of many competitors including Malon whose voice had similar qualities to Jigglypuff without the sleep inducing problems, sadly Malon’s fame is nothing compared to the Pokémon for her brief appearances in the Zelda game series were not enough for her to achieve critical acclaim and with frequent name changes makes it even more confusing. Nintendo’s decided in the end to go with looks as Jigglypuff’s critical acclaim proceeds her, nevertheless both contestants were very close with Malon frequently performing back up vocals for the lead star.
Drummer: Bowser
Bowser’s desire to smack things as hard as possible got him the part out of a long line of possibilities. Cubone who has the unique sounding bone drumsticks mysteriously disappeared during rehearsals. The Goron who played the part of Link from Majora’s Mask was tipped as the favourite for the role but for some reason unknown to Nintendo the character pulled out mid-way. A third contestant who almost seemed destined for the role after Goron was Mumbo Jumbo, the Banjo-Kazooie star is famous world wide for his Bongo playing skills, both Mumbo’s arms and legs were broken moments before the final decision was made leaving Bowser as the drummer. His hefty drum beats lifts over the music of the other musicians but his slow pace makes quick drumbeats near impossible.
Ocarinist: Link
Trained by the famous ocarina playing SAGE Saria, Link was the only real choice for the part. Using the incredible instrument “The Ocarina of Time” Link can perform massive Solo’s on stage often creating musical sounds that are technically impossible for an Ocarina to make. On their first live performance (aptly named Nintyfest) Link stole the shows with solo renditions of the windmill song and the classic Ballad of the Wind Fish. Link’s Ocarina being a quite instrument is only used during quite segments of the songs, in the meantime Link dresses as a Zora and plays the Bass Guitar.
Lead Guitarist: Totakeke
Despite lacking in fame this character from Animal Forest (Crossing) is better known as the “Wandering Musician”, after playing in front of a train station stunning the local villagers Nintendo decided to higher the character as Lead Guitar for The Nintendo Band, his daily life is a bit of a mystery and filled with speculation but nevertheless his skills are unmatched throughout the world of Nintendo. He can play hits both new and old throughout the world and attempts to persuade the band to do cover songs.
Melody Guitar: Funky Kong
The first person of the Kong family to be hired for the Nintendo band was Funky Kong. His extreme guitar cords and stunning leaps and bounds on stage made this flying fan a must choice for Nintendo. Funky Kong trained up and coming guitarist Diddy Kong who decided to practice learning further notes before trying out in the band. Funky Kong acrobatic stunts often keep the audience awake from the heavenly voice of Jigglypuff. One famous stunt had Funky Kong hung upside down whilst playing an amazing rift to the DK rap song (Taken from The Nintendo Bands second album named The Nintendo Band: Sunshine) and then falling into a well timed barrel plane that took him to the other side of the arena. The band wouldn’t be the same without the enigmatic Funky Kong.
Pipes: Mario
One of the most unimportant part of the band but lets face it we had to get the red clothed Italian Plumber in there somewhere. Mario uses the head of Luigi to hit the various sized and shaped pipes in succession to create various original sounds and noises, the pipes can make surprisingly loud noises and Mario often gets in battle for the loudest against Bowser. After losing out to Bowser when the band played “Live in the Mushroom Kingdom” (Album release coming soon) Mario got angry, leaped ten times his own size in the air and plummeted through Bowser’s snare drum promptly ending the performance. This angry act from Mario led to an apology on the British channel 5, no one tuned in.
DJ: Professor E Gad
Famous for making weird unnecessary noises, Professor E Gad seemed the obvious choice for the part of DJ. In an attempt to improve on rap songs The Nintendo Band decided to hire the nutty professor who built his own deck that squirts water over the audience. It isn’t just rap songs where E Gad plays a part, in nearly all songs you can make out a quite (or loud) noise that doesn’t make any sense whatsoever, more often than not it’ll be “Sizzen”. E Gad is the newest big star from Nintendo HQ who has starred in Luigi’s Mansion and the stunning Super Mario Sunshine. With incredible deck flipping skill and lack of competition E Gad looks certain to hold his position here, although his ghost hunting ways are often a worry to the band’s managers especially if it gets out into the open.
Trombonist: Lanky Kong
Being taught at an early age recent Nintendo star Lanky Kong gained his Trombone fame in Donkey Kong 64. Satouri Iwati head of the Nintendo band wanted to give the group a more “SKA” feel and so placed the flailing limb character into the role. Lanky Kong really comes into his own whilst performing the DK rap often using his long limbs to play long notes and assist Funky Kong in his acrobatic stunts. Lanky accidentally knocked out a low flying plane whilst attempting to do a cartwheel; the plane crashed and killed many audience members. After deciding it was an accident that could have been avoided the courts gave Lanky Kong was given 2 years community service replacing lamppost bulbs.
Mario named the Nintendo band’s next album, “ha ha I’m doing something that you’re not Luigi”. It goes on sale worldwide on December 6th in an attempt to outsell Wario’s first 3D outing. They are performing Live in Hyrule early next year.#

Mario named the Nintendo band’s next album, “ha ha I’m doing something that you’re not Luigi”. It goes on sale worldwide on December 6th in an attempt to outsell Wario’s first 3D outing. They are performing Live in Hyrule early next year.#
