Get there for 5pm, soundcheck and then sit about until about 8pm when people start to turn up.
Loads of people show, probably because it's been months since we played - good to catch up with old faces and some new ones.
Snuggly and monkey_man put in an appearance, looking all suave and sophisticated (when they eventually arrived).
Brett Anderson puts in an appearance, looking poncy and David Bowie wannabe, gets ignored by all but a few swooning glam-babes.
Mackie shows and it's good to chat to him for a while about what he's been up to - haven't seen him for a couple of weeks.
First band on "The People's Revolutionary Choir". Looked like The Hives, sounded like student angsty-crap and they didnt destroy my drumkit that I kindly let them use.
Small venue, massively hot onstage.
After first song, Chris breaks a string and has to resort to using his Explorer. I think it's rock and looks cool but it throws him and he's annoyed for the rest of the gig.
Despite that, gig went well, people seemed into it and the time shot by.
Lights blinding me, can't see past Scotty's back and it's 100 degrees onstage, sweating like a Turk again.
Pack up gear after chatting to people, Mackie thought it was fantastic and we chat drums and why he gets bored for FLC gigs just sitting there whilst Huey cracks jokes.
Snuggly + monkey_man overcome by emotion and fanboy him for a while.
Don't tell them, but afterwards he confesses "they're cool guys and the Atari t-shirt is sweet".
Go downstairs to the bar bit and schmooze everyone, thank them for coming etc etc. Signed 1st autograph on a CD inlay, felt really weird doing that, seeing as we're hardly Oasis yet.
Be worth a bit one day though "I saw Parker at a tiny gig" etc etc (hey come on, permit me some ego-stroking here, how many of you have ever been asked for your autograph?)
And the girl I'd asked to come showed up, so after pressing the flesh with A&R dudes, finally get to go over and start talking to her.
Her flatmate leaves, offers her a lift home and she ums and ahs, in steps Goatboy with the gallant "It's ok, I'll take you".
Everyone else leaves the place about 11:30-midnight, I stay until 2am with the girl and take her and her mate back to her place.
It's now 3am when we finally find ourselves south of the river and I'm allowed to stay at hers "on the floor in my room".
So, in conclusion:
Thoroughly enjoyed the gig, despite string breaks and temperature.
Signed 1st autograph, met a couple of gimps from here and escorted a fine young lady home.
Yeah, I think a top night was had by all. Music wise, it's perhaps not the sort of stuff I'd choose to listen to, but for the kind of music you guys played (we thought it was closest to the first Stereophonics album, y'know, the good one) you pretty much had it down cold. The string-breaking was rock, and the singer had a bit of a mad-eye thing going on, even though he looked like Dermot O'Leary and your geetar-man looked like Chris Moyles. As for the crazy old Indian guru DJ dude, well... hell, I've got no idea. I liked it.
Unfortunately, I didn't get a glance at Brett Anderson (as in, a glancing blow to his head) and a vicious rumour towards the end of the night that TV's Zane Lowe was upstairs proved to be false. However, I did see monkey_boy drunk for the first time in a millenia (poor sod doesn't get out much on his own anymore ;p) and laughed muchly at him pointing out the obvious all the way home (look, there's a train!). Even the fact that we missed the last train home and had to get a £40 cab back couldn't spoil our evening of RAWK.
Andy, cheers for inviting us down, and oh yeah - tell Mackie, next time we meet he can touch me if he wants.
www.thisisparker.co.uk or .com
Wasn't monkey man working on a website for you guys? Is it up and running if so can we have URL?
I want autograph as I predict you to go far, just think we could see a behind the music special using stuff that is on these forums. All your talk of boobs, man milk and dirty sanchez could come back and haunt you. Excellent :-)
When/where can I download or buy your music
eh? eh?
You're not Oasis, yet. But, they probably thought the same once. Apart from they obviously didn't think we're not Oasis, yet, as that would of just been stupid. Skies the limit.
But by talking to Snuggly, you might be put off ever coming to this site again. Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with him, of course...
And yeah, the weirdest thing someone wanting an autograph. Rob (bass) comes up with one of our flyers and says "sign this".
I laugh and see the other 3 have, so scribble my name on it. He gives it to a bloke who says cheers and wanders off.
"What was that about?" asks moi
Rob shrugs "He had our CD and asked for our autographs"
"...why?"
"Dunno"
Snuggly + monkey_man are top blokes, and I feel a bit bad for not talking to them more.
But then I remember I was chatting to an extremely fit young lady and I don't care. And although I wasn't with them all evening, they got to chat to Mackie and I reckon that's a bit better than me yakking at them all night.
Oh yeah, Snuggly?
I *did* come home on Sunday.
WHO's HOUSE?
GOAT'S HOUSE!
WHO'S HOUSE?
GOAT'S HOUSE!
Other than that, excellent. I persume Turks sweat quite a bit then.
