Get there for 5pm, soundcheck and then sit about until about 8pm when people start to turn up.
Loads of people show, probably because it's been months since we played - good to catch up with old faces and some new ones.
Snuggly and monkey_man put in an appearance, looking all suave and sophisticated (when they eventually arrived).
Brett Anderson puts in an appearance, looking poncy and David Bowie wannabe, gets ignored by all but a few swooning glam-babes.
Mackie shows and it's good to chat to him for a while about what he's been up to - haven't seen him for a couple of weeks.
First band on "The People's Revolutionary Choir". Looked like The Hives, sounded like student angsty-crap and they didnt destroy my drumkit that I kindly let them use.
Small venue, massively hot onstage.
After first song, Chris breaks a string and has to resort to using his Explorer. I think it's rock and looks cool but it throws him and he's annoyed for the rest of the gig.
Despite that, gig went well, people seemed into it and the time shot by.
Lights blinding me, can't see past Scotty's back and it's 100 degrees onstage, sweating like a Turk again.
Pack up gear after chatting to people, Mackie thought it was fantastic and we chat drums and why he gets bored for FLC gigs just sitting there whilst Huey cracks jokes.
Snuggly + monkey_man overcome by emotion and fanboy him for a while.
Don't tell them, but afterwards he confesses "they're cool guys and the Atari t-shirt is sweet".
Go downstairs to the bar bit and schmooze everyone, thank them for coming etc etc. Signed 1st autograph on a CD inlay, felt really weird doing that, seeing as we're hardly Oasis yet.
Be worth a bit one day though "I saw Parker at a tiny gig" etc etc (hey come on, permit me some ego-stroking here, how many of you have ever been asked for your autograph?)
And the girl I'd asked to come showed up, so after pressing the flesh with A&R dudes, finally get to go over and start talking to her.
Her flatmate leaves, offers her a lift home and she ums and ahs, in steps Goatboy with the gallant "It's ok, I'll take you".
Everyone else leaves the place about 11:30-midnight, I stay until 2am with the girl and take her and her mate back to her place.
It's now 3am when we finally find ourselves south of the river and I'm allowed to stay at hers "on the floor in my room".
So, in conclusion:
Thoroughly enjoyed the gig, despite string breaks and temperature.
Signed 1st autograph, met a couple of gimps from here and escorted a fine young lady home.
> No you may not Myst.
*******
Are you sure? I make a mean cuppa.
I'm pretty pi##ed off I couldn't make it, to be honest.
No women in the rock and roll gang.
Patsy Kensit / Yoko Ono / Meg Matthews...they only lead to disharmony and strife.
;p
And I *do* feel guilty about not spending the entire evening chatting to you and monkey_man - but you understand why.
Heh
And if you're up for it, we're playing The Dublin Castle last Friday of this month - in Camden and near the tube station.
We get guest-list for that one so I'll stick you two down.
And the lovely I was chatting up (with mucho success) is bringing her cousins down to that one.
They're 23 + 24.
Just so you know.
