I'm reasonbly new to web programming (I used to use WSIWYG but that sucked) and I'd like to ask you webheads a few q's...

1. Should I use frames on a site, I personally think they look a bit dodgy and also they don't work with all browsers. But is it worth making framesets for layout reasons?

2.I know Html and Javascript and I am planning to learn php and cgi but are there any other languages that are really worth learning?

3.Do you know of any good FREE (I am poor :) ) graphics programs for making web friendly graphics?

Thanks in Advance...

Grr, why do people think they can learn *CGI*? Doesn't anyone know it's not a language? It's an *interface*, that's what the acronym means. CGI is just the interface between the server and PERL, and PERL is what you learn!

..or C/C++/PHP (yes)/etc...

1. Everyone else here will say NO, but I would say Maybe, some sites look good with Frames, some do not, some woek better with Frames (HTML Chat Rooms for example) so it depends. Generally though, its best not to use them. But for Browser compatibility, on the really old Browsers don't support them, so I wouldn't worry about that.

2. Go with PHP, its become a favourite around here :o) So you will be able to get quite a bit of help. There is ASP, which is a Microsoft alternative to PHP, but there isn't much point in learning that as well... not yet anwyay.

3. Most of the big Graphics programs ofer free tirals, Fireworks is a great one, try it at macromedia.com
