This has always amazed me. Why don't Sony make a portable handheld console like the GBA? Sony could get away from cartridges, and even use their own MiniDisc media for holding the games. If nothing else, it would offer some competition to Nintendo.

It was horrible mate, as I said before, my mum didn';t 'like' games machines, it was only until I bought a Snes with Mario all stars (with christmas money) that she saw the light.

How I laughed to find her on it one day.....

Yeah, my old nextdoor neighbors had a console that took tapes... I assume it was a spectrum, but I can't remember... It had a really clunky keyboard though :D

I know for definate I could copy ZX Spectrum games to a minidisc player :)

Infact, that would be a good way of storing them and loading them for the ZX Spectrum 48k +!

But that's because the ZX Spectrum uses audio tapes to store data.

Minidisk are a digital medium Edgy, they can record from analogue but it will be converted to a poorer digitl quality.

Right now thats sorted, of course Minidisc can hold games if song wanted it too.

I imagine (although ive not looked this up) that a minidisc can hold the same amount of data as a normal CD-Rom, about 750mb. Thats plenty for gaming.

It was called a VMU: Visual Memory Unit.

I think that MiniDisks would be too easy to copy, and they are very easy to ruin. If you leave a MiniDisk on a radiator for any length of time, the data will be corrupted. Cartridges are sturdy and almost the perfect handheld data storage unit. Almost.

Minidiscs can record any audio files. IF you're recording from a PC, you plug the cable from your Minidisc player into a PC adaptor cable and plug that into the USB port, then play the audio file on your PC and press record on the player and it will record it - in analogue.

It records the same as when you plug the minidisc player into a hifi, walkman, etc.
