That 34dcb is coming solely from the heatsink fan. I'm planning to replace the 34dcb HSF with a 29dcb fan, although I can run it at a lower speed because it gives significantly more airflow. I also want one 19dcb 80mm fan blowing air in, and hopefully one 12dcb exhaust, but that depends on getting clearance for a 80mm > 60mm fan adapter, because my exhaust appears to be 60mm. I may also want a 80mm 12dcb exhaust at the top aswell/instead, but I have to move my sub for that to work. Replace the panel and that should stop my CPU from cooking. I'm also going to link them all up to a (bay|glow|touch)bus so I can reduce the fan noise a night time.
I know decibels aren't cumulative, but it still sounds like it's going to be noisy.
Anyway, what I want to know is, are there any reliable ways to reduce noise that anyone knows of? I have to get this noise problem sorted or Mum'll make me move the computer upstairs, which would be a disaster.
Cheers

The only thing that actually outputs any noise is the massive heatsink fan, so that's my main concern.
About the case padding, I don't think my case is vibrating in the slightest, you certanly can't detect it, and a glass of water yeilds nothing.
This 120mm fan is an ideal solution if it will fit on, but if not I have problems. It's a shame this PC won't do standby.
If you want to reduce noise, start by putting the case panel back on, and possibly getting some matting to put on the inside panels to reduce the vibrations - this is more of an issue on some cases than others, and can be fairly expensive, check the "Silent Kit" section on kustom's site. I'd also recommend a baybus, or ideally rheobus, to let you manually adjust the fan speed to what you consider to be acceptable - I'd go mad if I couldn't shove these on 7v half the time.
Assume you're buying papst fans, which are as good as silent anyway - check any other fans in your case though. Any places on the mobo/chipsets where you could get away with a passive cooler? What about the PSU, I can't remember what I gave you, what make if it? The fans in those can be swapped for quieter ones..although, at the risk of frying yourself abit should you screw up, heh. Check your CD drive and hdd too, vibrations and access noise, although I doubt you'll want to replace them.
It's not hard to get a silent pc, if you're not bothered about temps, or you go the water cooling route :D
